You can't have a rule then start making exceptions? Even if it's below zero outside?
I imagine that was before the pubs round here became child friendly, after which you couldn't have a quiet pint without hordes of screaming kids rushing around you.

Thanks for the interesting information. My Gt Gt Grandfather Richard Isaac 1830 - 1897, opened his Bakers shop on Whateley Rd by 1873. He also had a Gardener business, market gardening, on Lordship Lane. I have never found an image showing his shops; or an advert for either.
Don you know if any exists?
Hevhad 8 daughters I have a photo of my Gt Grandmother with a unique basket of flowers form his shop. From 1891.
