  • Drxyster changed the title to Chinese Take-Aways / Delivery.

"Well your honour, let me refer to my notebook"

"Ah yes, I was proceeding down a westerly direction from the road of Barry towards his lordship's lane when I heard what sounded like metal being struck repeatedly and someone calling me what sounded like an 'arse'ole' I decided to investigate and found two gentlemen of oriental disposition, one was waving a large chopping knife around and the other welding a half conical pan in my direction.

I stopped and said 'evenimg all wok the hell is going on here' and one if the gentlemen replied 'duck off'.

Taking out my truncation I told him not to be rude and promptly arrested him for profanity towards a serving police officer, it was only later when I got to the station with both gentleman in handcuffs did my skipper remind me to put my hearing aids in"

"and that your honour is how I came to be here in the dock" said PC Malumbu SC69

Nice title of the thread, clear to all.  Titling a thread is worth a thread of it's own.  I don't do takeaways but I expect that most Chinese food establishments have their own trained delivery cyclists, on road legal bikes, and have taken advantage of the great cycling networks around here.  A win win win.  Thanks all.

Malumbu - that's an, ahem, interesting take on a title for a thread. Is there nothing you don't feel the need to police - from now onwards perhaps you should rename yourself P.C. Malumbu.....? 😉

I thought exactly the same as Malumbu when I saw the original thread title

    • Hi,   If anyone has a big furniture delivery, please may I recycle your packaging? I have a chest of drawers that I am sending back but their packaging was all wet so I have to find some to replace it. Ideal would be boxes 140cm x 90 x 50 but can totally cobble different items together so anything offered would be great. I am in SE21 so anywhere walkable is fab.  Thank ou
    • They'd been there for days but I hadn't tied them to this thread. Nice work, it was bugging me!
    • Off topic, but when I was a kid in Streatham, long ago, apart from the milkman (rarely if ever milkwoman),  who also delivered yoghurt - very exotic - in little glass jars, we also had regular deliveries of coal, bread and cheesecakes (not the kind we know now, they had coconut on top), fruit and veg,  and paraffin (both pink and blue). I'm not entirely sure we have lost "something amazing" by buying milk in shops. The glass bottles were left on the doorstep and the metallic tops were pecked through by birds getting at the cream/milk. Or else the bottles were nicked.  And then there was the rag and bone man.... bell and horse and cart, just like Steptoe. God I'm old. We didn't have supermarket deliveries. We didn't have supermarkets. I remember the first supermarket opening in Streatham. It  was quite amazing having to walk round and  put your own shopping in a basket. As you were ..... Sorry OP and admin.
    • Yep, I hear you. Been waiting for modern milkman to these parts and plan to try them out. I still remember Dennis, our Egg-man, from my childhood, who used to deliver dozens in his Citroen 2C and came to collect the boxes the following week. Happy Days.
