I always understood that the large detached house on the corner of Colyton rd & Forest Hill Road was part of the park and therefore had to be used for some kind of community use. It has been a nursery. Today on the market for £3000000. So does anyone know more about the change or the history?

I understand it was the last remaining building from 4 farms, which were bought out to create the park in Victorian times. More space than just the common was needed for the many people who would come out of London for leisure on the weekends.

I believe it's just a private property. The nursery isn't a 'community' project, just a private company.

Alice, with all your interest I am wondering if its a case of

A) you want to buy the property and want to know its history

B) you are crying `Curiouser and curiouser!'

C) you are trying to disrupt the sale by finding a clause previously forgotten

    • Seems to be back on now although pressure reduced especially for hot water via boiler. Hopefully I can have a shower in the morning.
    • It’s far too hot. Dogs should not be out and you’re right to post this.
    • Agree that you have to be so careful dogs in this heat… but please dont judge so quickly.  Its one thing if you see a dog at midday being thrown the ball endlessly, but if you see a dog en route / somewhere - You dont know if that dog was being walked to the vet for an emergency appointment.. or taken to a friend’s house that is cooler etc.  And if they live in a flat, they might desperately need to be taken out for a quick pee / poo !
    • I know,  absolutely crazy.  A dog has never died because it didn't have a walk, but dogs do die if walked in this heat. Perhaps the owners should put on a thick fur coat, take their shoes off and jog round the pavements, and see how that feels! 🤬
