Ride 1. Charlie Chaplin Rides Again  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/charlie-chaplin-rides-again-tickets-719317687567

This ride, devised by Harry Clark for Healthy Rides in 2018 and 19, visits locations associated with Charlie Chaplin’s early years when he lived in Walworth and Kennington.  It is a 10 milet route with 11  stops. No coffee stop as need to finish sharp at noon. Bruce leading.  Start/finish in Peckham Square with usual 10am start.  First stop East Lane where Charlie was born, then Barlow St where he lived and St Johns Church where his parents married. On to West Squ, another place Charle lived, then the Imperial Was Museum, which was Bethlem Hospital where his mother was a patient. Into Kennington to the Three Stags pub, frequented by Charlie’s father, followed by the Lambeth Workhouse, now the Cinema Museum, with which Charie was well acquainted. Finally 3 more places where Charlie lived and another popular pub. Attached is Harry’s summary of Charlie’s early life and other information and his annotated list of the locations we will be cycling to (also web link to this here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Charlie-Chaplin-PDF-2019_06_27-21_53_24-UTC.pdf). • So far, I haven't come across a bakery in East Dulwich or the surrounding areas which sells baked goods with fresh cream, other than Greggs on Peckham Rye. I'm thinking of things like chocolate eclairs and  cream buns.  I passed by the bakery in West Dulwich the other day - it looked traditional so I hoped they might sell some, but sadly when I asked they said they don't sell things with fresh cream.  Same for the bakery in Nunhead (I heard they used to, years ago).  Does anyone know of any bakeries near here (or further afield) which do sell these? I should say that the M&S chocolate eclairs (the standard ones) are very good and they use proper fresh whipped cream, so I am thankful for that!
    • It would be interesting to know who the landlord is, how much the rent was increased by, and the reasons for the rise.
    • I donate to St Christophers which is a local charity that sadly looked after a friend of ours at the end of his life. It makes me angry to read here that the landlord increased the rent on the shop. There is also a really good charity shop for Sue Ryder next door to Sainsburys in Forest Hill- (I donate to them too..and rarely leave without a purchase too) they do have some designer pieces at higher prices (Gucci, etc..which are usually in a cabinet in the window) but as a rule thier prices are very fair. I find 'Mary's save the Children' VERY overpriced much more so than StChristophers.
