We have 2 rides for the 18th Nov. Both are rides we did about this time last year. Amanda’s longish Camden Market ride and my short Streatham Common ride. One from London Bridge, the other from Dulwich. Two quite different rides, so you can choose whichever suits you best.

NOTE. These are the rides for next week. On this Saturday, Nov 11th, we have the Lord Mayors Show  ride starting at London Bridge < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lord-mayors-show-cycle-ride-tickets-750929258627 > and Parks, Cemeteries and a Museum ride from Peckham. < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/parks-cemeteries-and-a-museum-peckham-to-horniman-museum-cycle-ride-tickets-750916219627 >

Ride 1.  London Bridge to Camden Lock < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-camden-lock-cycle-ride-tickets-754926614827 >

Camden Lock - shops, markets, cafes, busy.  On a ride, normally avoid it.  However, it is a great destination – and lots of options for a coffee stop. Start 9.30am at Southwark Needle (south end of London Bridge, close to the station, SE1 2PF) with Amanda leading for an estimated 3.5 hour ride. Outward route along south side to Westminster Bridge, then Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Marble Arch, Oxford St, Baker St, Regents Park Outer Circle, Camden High St. Coffee stop. Return Canal Tow Path to Kings Cross Granary Square, Cycleway 6 to Farringdon, up Ludgate Hill and past St Pauls.  Down to Cycleway 3 and if time loop over Tower Bridge and Tooley St back to London Bridge. Some roads with lots of traffic. But pretty much non-stop sight-seeing and photo-ops! Report from last year at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/ride-reports-nov-19th-2022/

Ride 2.  Dulwich to Streatham Common  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dulwich-to-streatham-common-cycle-ride-tickets-754945009847>

Ride Leader Bruce. Start 10am for a 2 hour ride. Start/finish location the Café in Dulwich Park. Short ride (8 miles), undulating, should be time for a coffee at the Rookery Café on the Common and for a peep at the striking Rookery gardens. Mostly street cycling, some sections a bit busy. Will look in at the velodrome. On the return route excellent views from Norwood Park then finish with a long downhill back to Dulwich. Route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1kBbbdTgFkDK21x3M60BAGCWP5FyFhirl&usp=sharing.  Report from last year at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/ride-reports-15th-oct-2022/.

If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. How to cancel link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/help/en-gb/articles/575010/how-to-cancel-your-free-registration/

These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

Healthy Ride, Peckham to Streatham, has been cancelled. Sorry about this, but family issues mean I cannot lead on Saturday.  No-one had signed up yet on Eventbrite and we have space on the London Bridge to Camden ride, link for registration https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-camden-lock-cycle-ride-tickets-754926614827?aff=oddtdtcreator

    • I'm sorry to learn that though Liam does seems well qualified. Hopefully with McAsh gone, Southwark Labour will turn to Charlie to fill the gap.
    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
