Hi anyone who uses a childminder to drop off and pick up their children from a half day pre-school - do you pay the childminder for the hours during the morning the kids are actually in preschool?

For me I want to drop child at childminder at 8am, then she would take child to preschool (private so I'm paying)for 4 hours, pick child up and look after them until 6pm.

I guess this is same as school drop/pick up so checking you only pay the childminder for the time they are with the child? thanks!

I pay for the whole day because I'm taking up a place all day, since my childminder can't take someone else for the three hours my son is at nursery. Also she is on standby to get him if he should fall ill at school, and she has him in the holidays all day. I think that's pretty standard and seems reasonable to me.

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
