We’ve been facing a recurring issue in the streets around North Cross Road. A market trader has been regularly leaving her cart on our streets, exacerbating the existing parking challenges. 

With East Dulwich station nearby attracting many commuters, and CPZs newly implemented in areas like Nunhead and Queens Road, parking has become increasingly difficult. While I understand there are no specific restrictions against what this trader is doing, I believe a balance should be struck between her needs and those of the residents. 

The trader doesn’t live around here and I feel she is using  our streets for storage. She drives in a different car to come to the market.  

While I recognise the importance of supporting local businesses and appreciate their contribution.  There’s a need for balance and consideration. 

I would appreciate hearing others’ thoughts on this matter and any suggestions.

Has the CPZ in Nunhead and Queen's Road secretly been implemented? 

I thought this was back to consultation stage ? 

The commuter numbers at Ed are down on pre pandemic and most don't use streets as far away as NCR. Could be the school at the old police station is increasing day time parking.

Rarepearl your post feels a little like you are trying to drum up support for a CPZ and as recent attempts by the council show, there isn't a call for one but they will keep on trying as they want the extra revenue.

Weird how you have turned this into CPZ thread...

Check out the council web site for dumped vehicles.  Yes it isn't dumped but it may give you some advice. We have a 2012 car, with damage, that parks in our street.  It moves from time to time to another local street, but isn't used, beyond shifting it to another street.

Hi, my intention is not about the CPZ at all.  It about being fair.  Every week we move our cars to accommodate the market.  When the market is closed it would be nice to have the space to park close to where I live.  I live in the proximity and it’s very difficult to find parking.  I am only looking for some consideration.  Whilst I understand that there is no law against any vehicle parking on the road, I just believe it is unfair for a trader to leave their vehicle in place whilst the market is not open. If every trader did the same thing, there would be nowhere to park on the road at all.

If you had a skip in the road you would have to pay a charge for leaving it there. This is the broad equivalent of a skip. People who live locally and park their cars in the road at least pay Council Tax for their property: I'm assuming the cart owner is paying nothing, other than the 'hire' of space in Northcross Road, from which I assume she aims to make a commercial return.

Exactly,  I have already contacted the council, but they are unable to enforce any action. The owner has been informed about this situation. Despite knowing, she has chosen not to take any actions . Instead, she now parks the vehicle a few metres away from her usual trading spot,

The council does seem to be powerless in these circumstances. There is a Volvo on Dovercourt with a note from the council saying it has been there for a very long time and has not moved and whilst they cannot forcibly remove it they are asking the owner to move it.

Thinking about East Enders, which mirrors East Dulwich (ho ho) they have to get on with the market inspector, as of course virtually everyone in this very real to life programme has a market stall.

I don't think Southwark have a market inspector, but there will be a registration.  You could enquire nicely:  [email protected]

      Royal Mail - late deliveries - what is happening?

      So. Last night Royal Mail customer service kept me waiting a quarter of an hour with no indication of the wait time,  then closed the service down at 6.30pm. This morning I waited half an hour to speak to someone.   First they told me to make a claim via their website, then reluctantly agreed they could do it on the phone. They required both my and my daughter's name, addresses, postcodes and email addresses, plus my phone number. WHY? THEN they told me a CHEQUE for £9.85 would be sent to my address!!!!!! No compensation for everybody's wasted time, just the Special Delivery (hollow laugh) fee back. I did point out a) we weren't in the Stone Age and b) this cheque would probably either never arrive or be stuck for months in the local delivery office beneath mounds of other mail which never gets delivered. I felt very sorry for this guy. I hope he is well paid. What a terrible job to have. So now, assuming I ever get the cheque, I will have to queue up at the Post Office to pay it in. Having already queued up to post an item for a non existent service in the first place. GRRRRR. Can I be bothered to write to the CEO? No, probably not. I'll just get some bland standard letter back sent by some other poor person with a terrible job.

      Thank you for the warning. There have been instances of vulnerable people targeted by scammers in this area, so we do need to be mindful of our neighbours.

      Lots of very good places around Rye Lane. I'd say there are the long-standing great places like Levan, Mr Bao, Oi Spaghetti, Peckham Bazaar and (towards Bellenden Rd) Begging Bowl, Made of Dough, and Artusi.  And then the newer places that we've been enjoying include Janda Diner, Taquiza, Hausu, En Root, Messy Mary (currently at Copeland Social). We are spoilt for choice really! Depends what you're looking for - some of the above are cheap and cheerful, others much more fancy

      Yep dangerous and worrying and plenty on here seem to either not grasp that or are perfectly ok with it - which is more worrying you think cancerian or any other reform voter will be any happier if reform win? Sure, just like Brexit they will laugh at the lib-tears but as reality hits, nothing but more anger and complaints   And as we see with Brexit and Trump, finding out too late doesn't solve anything
