We again have two contrasting rides on Feb 10th, a long one to Chinbrook Meadows near Grove Park and a short one, the Thames loop via Greenwich and London Bridge.

Ride 1, Feb 10th.  Thames Loop from Canada Water.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/thames-loop-cycle-ride-from-canada-water-tickets-819144161237  >

A favourite short ride, this anti-clockwise loop follows the Thames on both banks. Lots of history and always something new to see. 10am to 12.30pm. Start/finish Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station, SE16 7AR. Easy 11 mile ride using DLR to cross river at Greenwich (travel pass or equivalent needed) and returning over London Bridge.  Route includes Russia Woodland, Greenland Dock, Deptford Historic Waterfront, Narrow St (Wapping), Shadwell Basin, Canal-side paths to St Katherines, the Monument. Coffee stop on return leg (probably Bartons, Dockhead). No hills, mostly off road, cycle lanes or quiet streets. Simon K. leading.  It will be possible to join the ride at Greenwich Station. Meet 10.25am outside the front of the station on Greenwich High Rd, near the Novotel (not by the DLR entrance). Please indicate on the registration form that you will be joining at Greenwich. Ride 2, Feb 10th.  Peckham Rye Park to Chinbrook Meadows - Ravensbourne and Quaggy Rivers  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/small-se-london-rivers-peckham-rye-park-to-chinbrook-meadows-cycle-ride-tickets-819208403387 >

New route devised by Bruce who will be leading.  Will take us on an 18 mile loop through SE London that is focussed on the Ravensbourne River and its tributary, the Quaggy River. These rivers spend much of their time out of sight in narrow concrete culverts. But occasionally they are released and form attractive landscape features and wildlife habitats. The route includes 3 such areas, Brookmill Park, Sutcliffe Park and Chinbrook Meadows.

Ride will start at the Peckham Rye Park Café (The Round, Straker’s Rd., SE15 3UA). Note NOT our usual Peckham starting point.  Begin by heading up to Nunhead then down to Brookmill Park. From there we will ride to Lewisham where the confluence of the Ravensbourne and the Quaggy lies amongst the new buildings next to Lewisham Station. The main part of the ride will then follow the Quaggy to Sutcliffe Park in Kidbrooke and on to Chinbrook Meadows near Grove Park.  The route then heads west to find the Ravensbourne as it exits Beckenham Place Park and we finally head back to Peckham Rye Park via Bellingham, Ladywell Fields and Nunhead.

Total distance is 29 km (18 miles) and we climb up to Nunhead twice. Am allowing 4½ hours, starting at 9.30 am and finishing around 2pm.  We will have a Cafe break but bring drink and snacks.  And make sure your bike and your legs are in tip top condition!  Route map at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1Lo1Rx-SH5AdrXu13iX1vCm5CtizXXvI&usp=sharing.

These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
    • Depends on what the Barista says doesnt it? There was no physical confrontation with the driver, OP thinks she is being targetted when she isnt. These guys work min wage under strict schedules so give them a break unless they damage your stuff
    • CPR Dave, attendance records are available on Southwark's website. Maggie Browning has attended 100% of meetings. Jon Hartley has attended 65%.
    • I do hope NOT, wouldn't trust Farage as far as I could throw him, Starmer & co.  He's backed by GB News which focus's predominantly on immigration while the BBC focus predominantly on the Israel - Gazza conflict.
