NOTE. Please register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, links below.
Additional information:

1.  Ride Marshal training. For helping with Healthy Rides and with other rides like the one to Freecycle, it is useful to have had ride marshal training. LCC are offering free training on Feb21st, Feb 24th, March 2nd. Sessions last 3 hours and are at a Central London location. More information at https://lcc.org.uk/events-calendar/

2.  New guidance about how to safely organise social rides has been issued by London Cycling Campaign, of which Southwark Cyclists are part.  The aim is to simplify some aspects, but also tighten up a bit on others. This is so that they are insured should an incident on an LCC (including Southwark Cyclists) ride leads to them being sued. The most relevant change for us is that any rides with over 15 participants will be required to have a Risk Assessment approved by LCC central office. This is a time consuming exercise that is only worthwhile for occasional special events. It means we have to be a bit more strict about numbers. So please check Eventbrite to see if a ride is full before turning up.

There two contrasting rides on Feb 17th, a 3 hour one to The Yurts at Limehouse and a 2-2½ hour one from Waterloo to Battersea.

Ride 1.  Feb 17th. Peckham to Yurt Café, Limehouse < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-to-the-yurt-cafe-limehouse-cycle-ride-tickets-828795207777 >

The yurts are such a surprise, tucked away near the Limehouse Link. They house a Social Enterprise Community Cafe operated by The Royal Foundation of St Katharine. If you have never been there, try to join this ride. If you have been there before, then you will probably want to return.  Start 10am Peckham Square, next to Peckham library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY. Outward route going over Tower Bridge, through St Katherines Dock to Wapping, then turning onto CS3 for a tiny bit to get to the Yurt Cafe.  Coffee break there then return through Limehouse Basin, Ropemakers Field, on to the Thames Path and cut across to Mudchute DLR (bring Travel Pass or equivalent). Alight Greenwich station and go along Greenwich High Rd the short distance to Cycle way 10, then follow this several miles to Abercorn Way, then left to Glengall Road and the Canal path to Peckham Square. Plan to be back by 1pm. About 13 miles. Amanda leading.

Ride 2, Feb 17th.  Five Upstream Bridges  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/five-uptream-bridges-cycle-ride-tickets-828860322537 >

Back on Jan 13th we did a ride crossing the 6 central bridges over the Thames (report here). Now is the chance to head upstream and ride the next 5 bridges, Lambeth, Vauxhall, Chelsea, Albert and Battersea.  10 am start at Waterloo Station. Meet beside the Victory Arch next to the Cab Rd, just off York Rd. Ride to Lambeth Bridge via Lambeth North station, Archbishops Park and Black Prince Rd. Left off Lambeth Bridge and along C6 to Vauxhall Bridge. On south side use crossing to get on the Thames Path and mostly follow this to Battersea Power Station. Continue through Battersea Park and turn on to Albert Bridge. Left off albert Bridge and along a short stretch of embankment to Battersea Bridge. Cross this, our farthest bridge and had back to Battersea Park. Turn on to Chelsea Bridge and at the far side take a 2-stage right on to C8 followed by immediate left to Lupus St and Pimlico. Use the cycle crossing to get on to the cycleway on Vauxhall Bridge Rd and cross Vauxhall Bridge for the second time. Finish by crossing Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and taking C5 to Waterloo Millenium Green opposite the Old Vec, where the ride will finish. 10 miles, no hills. Several possible coffee spots if time allows. Route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=14RgZ0zoVie6bUSZmAGJ9Qk6TJWTeUf0&usp=sharing

Riders of all ages are welcome but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. How to cancel link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/help/en-gb/articles/575010/how-to-cancel-your-free-registration/

    • Help us mark a decade of local journalism and ensure the next ten years of The Dulwich Diverter! To pledge, please go to: tiny.cc/dd10 Since 2016, The Dulwich Diverter has been telling the stories that matter in East Dulwich, West Dulwich, Dulwich Village and the surrounding neighbourhoods.  Stories about the independent traders, the everyday heroes, the corners of SE22 that wouldn't normally make the front page. In early 2026 we hope to reach our 10‑year anniversary.    Why this campaign matters: Free, local journalism in print is under pressure. The voices and stories of our community deserve an ongoing platform and your support will help ensure that platform remains vibrant, independent, and thriving. What we’ll do with your support: With your pledge today you will help us to keep going for the next few years, produce a special 10‑year anniversary print edition and host an event to celebrate 10 years of the newspaper. A bit more information about us: Through reading our newspapers, people have become involved with local charities and good causes they may otherwise never have known about. We rely solely on advertising sales to keep us in print. However, this year has been a somewhat bumpy ride for many local businesses who have been regular supporters of the paper hence us needing to crowdfund. All revenue raised helps us pay our contributors and fund the professional journalism and high quality photography, illustration and design that are the hallmarks of the titles we produce. The more money we have, the more stories we can publish and every single page of advertising is thoughtfully matched with a page of high quality and engaging editorial  (“all killer, no filler” to quote one reader), which increases reader “dwell time” and ensures that people linger on each spread for longer. We personally hand deliver every single copy of the newspaper and we have a diverse range of stockists to ensure we reach the whole of the community, not just one part of it.  You can find us in all sorts of places, from laundrettes, libraries and hair salons to shops, pubs and cafes. We believe local publications should truly reflect the areas they cover and we strive to represent the incredible diversity of south-east London on our pages.  We invest a huge amount of time and effort in seeking out stories that no one else has written about and sharing them with our readers. We aim to appeal to everyone in the area; those who have lived here their whole lives and those who have just arrived. We have readers of all ages – from 9 to 99!
    • I'm not missing the point, I don't agree that people must wear special clothes when walking or cycling. There is no law on this and despite the highway code suggesting clothing that cyclists and pedestrians might consider wearing after dark, I doubt you wear a reflective sash when walking in the evening. It's also a fact that a bicycle and a moped are different things. It's not unreasonable to point out where someone conflates the two. What is 'disagreeable', is Penguin68 suggesting that we should have no sympathy for someone hit by a careless driver, if they weren't wearing particular clothes that he deems appropriate. People should obviously have lights on their bikes when travelling after dark.
    • Hello, I am looking for some lego minifigures for my son's birthday. If you are getting rid of any, please let me know. Thank you! Jo 07950 083 258
    • you're missing the point and come across as just being disagreeable.   I'm therefore just going to close this - as it;'s not a debate or an argument   DRIVERS  - please pay extra care as there are cyclists who are very low visibility and without lights or suitable clothing CYCLISTS - Put lights on your bike - front and back - and reflective strips at the very least. Consider other road users and pedestrians.  EVERYONE - Be safe
