Hello all, does anyone know what's happened to The Paxton pub? I recall visiting a once almost 2 years ago and it was like a nightclub with a DJ and about 2 patrons and overpriced drinks.

It is such a beautiful building rich in history and seems to always be closed with no signage to advise of anything. Does anyone know if the council has plans to do anything with this or if there is some discussion happening about it? Would be great to know!

Thanks,

M

Where is it???

Hadn't realised that it had closed, used it a few times in the 00s, then it had a makeover that was very busy on the eye (spose it goes with some psychedelic rave image).  Walked down from Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago to see it was closed, and an enforcement notice on the door saying that the gas and leccy meters had been removed, so owners gone bankrupt.

Back in the day (12-13 years ago?) when Scott and co @ Capital pubco revamped it I used to enjoy walking over from East Dulwich Grove and even had an after party for my 1-year old's birthday there. But it was a big old unit that never found its footing IMO. Neil (who managed Bishop and Actress for spells) was looking after it but felt it a bit  removed

So when the  Green King takeover happened I assumed it was doomed. Shame - I have good memories

The last person to have run The Paxton completely ruined it. From the moment I saw the large tacky looking plastic banner on the outside I knew what its fate would be.

It was horrid.  In your face brash decorating.  Before that it was fine

    • That's why I said 'in some form' - that figure increases to 57% when asked if they were in favour of a 'National ID Card', rather than a digital one on their phone. That suggests a couple of things to me: firstly that the majority of people aren't mad enough to rebel over a perceived Orwellian assault on their civil liberties and, secondly, that 20% of people are worried about someone sussing that they've been looking at 'BigTits.Com' or some-such on their mobile.
    • we need more information - the actual facts on intended use and benefits - now and in the future, otherwise we're just speculating
    • I think digital id is potentially a good thing, number of reasons for that. Eventually it will encompass services you already have from the goverment, your driving licence,  you NI number, your gov gateway (all obvious extensions)  Services like photo card driving licences have already proved to have flaws, including Mr Smith, who looks similar to Mr Green,  passing Mr Greens test to get Mr Green a "dodgy" dtiving licence as an example.  Digital id may also ensure only people entitled to NHS care get it and health tourists pay to use our health service.  However, whilst I think.its a good idea, social media will ensure it is still born. Over the weekend I've seen so many anti digital id posts, including Kier as Davros leading the Labour Daleks (did make me chuckle) , comparisons to 1984 and even a song about it. Someone posted "what would happen if we all refused to sign up" and how within 31 days it would topple the government.  Will it actually happen maybe , but I have a feeling, like most things whatever way it goes both sides will again employ project fear and misinformation.
    • Yep.  Yet completely in keeping with this mad post-Brexit country  Yeah but the poll tax was manifestly unfair financially where the richest millionaire paid same as a single pensioner in a one bed flat  this id thing is just… hysterical
