We had the police come around today and tell us there a lot of burglaries going on near us (around oakhurst grove/the gardens). Things are so bad that there are a lot of plain clothes police out and about right now and some uniformed officers are going around door to door warning people, offering advice and giving out "smart water" tagging kits. The smart water stuff is a rather cool invisible micro-tagged gel that flureses under UV light and when looked at under a microscope shows a unique serial number that had been assigned by the police to your house. You wipe some on your valuables and if they turn up getting hocked they can very likely be IDed as yours. Very CSI.

My points here are

1) take care and keep and eye out. It sounds like there are some pretty organised theives around our area

2) thanks to the local police for a really positive pro-active step in protecting us from them

This has to be the most positive policing initiative I've seen in my 8 years in london. I am totally chuffed by how it's been handled.

Just emailed the efficient Katherine Pitt and got this message- pasted below-straight back..phone number for anyone who wants a kit.

thank you for getting in touch, I have just received an email about this from another East Dulwich resident too.

The police should be able to provide you with a SmartWater kit. I have forwarded your email to the East Dulwich Safer Neighbourhood Police Team. I'm not allowed to give out their email address, but if for any reason you don't hear back, their phone number is 020 8721 2447.

kind regards

Try [email protected] (taken from the Met website). I have received a reply from the equivilant address for College SNT, so assume it is still current.

    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
