On Saturday April 6th we are planning two rides, a short ride from Dulwich and a longer ride from Peckham

Ride 1.  Dulwich to Vauxhall Bridge via the River Effra Valley < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dulwich-to-vauxhall-bridge-via-the-river-effra-valley-cycle-ride-tickets-874838564697 >

A flat route from Dulwich following the River Effra. The Effra is one of London’s “Lost Rivers”, small rivers that have disappeared into underground pipes. Starting 10am from Dulwich Park Café we will first divert to Belair Park, the only place where the Effra is visible above ground. Next quiet streets to Brockwell Park, exit on to Brixton Water Lane, then take Effra Road to Brixton Central.  Long run down Brixton Rd to the Oval where we join Cycleway 5 to Vauxhall Bridge.  You used to be able to see the exit of the Effra into the Thames just downstream, but the Tideway Tunnel people have built lots of stuff concealing this.  May be just visible again now. Short stop on Vauxhall Bridge then a ride past the American Embassy with its moat and defensive rampart and a look at the Sky Pool.  Interesting quiet back streets route to Myatts Fields.  Then Elim Open Space, across Coldharbour Lane at Cambria Rd, and along Milkwood Rd to Herne Hill.  Finally Burbage Rd, past the Velodrome (maybe pop in if we have time) and back to Dulwich Park (expect that to be at 12.30).  11 miles, a mixture of quiet and busy streets, some cycle lane. Should have time for a coffee stop – maybe the Black Cab Café off 9 Elms Rd. Bruce leading. Route at http://tinyurl.com/y7ul6r9r

Ride 2. A Celebration of Elm Trees < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cycle-ride-in-celebration-of-elm-trees-tickets-874840259767  >

10.00am start at Peckham Square (Peckham Library). Back for 1.00pm. Simon S leading. We'll go to the famous Lewisham Dutch Elm in Ladywell Fields, and stop for coffee and views in Brockwell Park on the way back. The aim is to visit as many elm trees as possible in a short ride. The elms should be in fruit, and very visible. In addition a couple of "Elm" roads. As a bonus, we may see a fine avenue of cherries still in blossom in the Herne Hill area. 14 miles, mostly on quiet roads and cycleways. A few ups and downs but nothing tough. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. How to cancel link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/help/en-gb/articles/575010/how-to-cancel-your-free-registration/

This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.  You can see our forward planning and also how many riders are registered here.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
