Family member inherited two of these on a new home.  I'm all for going up a ladder and removing them and several cables.  They have fibre and get their telly through this and a firestick.  Do satellite dishes offer anything additional that you can't get through fibre optics?  Do having these on the front of your house have retro chic?!

well apparently:

Advantages of Satellite TV

One of the greatest advantages of satellite dishes is that they are a lot smaller in size when compared to when they first were introduced. This makes it very easy for fitters to install them on the roof of your home so you can get the best signal.

Better Picture

Due to the way signal is transmitted to your home, satellite tv has better picture quality when compared to cable television. This is because cable tv needs a lot of wires connected which are connected to a hub that may be further away from your home, causing poor picture quality.

More Choices

You have a wide range of channels to choose from because a satellite dish transmits signals from all around the world, so whichever company you are set up with, you can receive channels from other countries.

Easy to Troubleshoot

Troubleshooting a satellite television is very easy when compared to cable television. The reason for this is because of the configuration which is carried out, making it easy for you so you do not need to get in touch with your provider in order to troubleshoot.

I expect that this is rather outdated from a time when they were digging up our streets to lay on cable TV before fast broadband/fibre.  I suppose a supplementary question is whether we need cable TV anymore, does anyone round here use cable or satellite?

If your TV signal isn't good, then Freesat is a good alternative to Freeview. I believe Freesat also has a few extra channels. I want to try Freesat but I'm not sure whether the dish is working  -  if anyone has a redundant Freesat box, please message me.

    • What is the reason for the change in name? Just curious.
    • Why change it?  You’ve got a fantastic historic, memorable name and you want to change it for something innocuous.
    • From the school newsletter:   A New Name for Dog Kennel Hill As you know we have been discussing and consulting with stakeholders about a  name change at DKH for a while. Following engagement with staff, pupils and  families, we gathered all views on a name change for the school and after  careful consideration of the feedback, the Local Committee and the Trust have  agreed with changing the school name to Grove Primary School from  September 2025.  Over the next few months we will begin a gradual process of changing our  name on signage, our website and emails etc. We will keep you updated.  We will be looking at designing a new logo to match the new school name and  will be working closely with a graphic designer to get creative. The school  council will be actively involved in this process. We will share the results with  you as soon as a design has been agreed and confirmed. We will be creating a  new school jumper to replace the old one, once the logo has been finalised. We  will phase this in over time.  We know that this is a welcoming change for some and that there are  parents and children who will be sad about the change. However, as a school  we think it will be a positive change for our school community and we will  work together to ensure that the ethos and culture of DKH will remain!
