Daniel_CR17
Hi EDF, Bit of a weird one. We're clearing out our garden, and have found in there 2 extra bins: one of the large brown ones for garden waste, and a medium one for food composting. These must have been owned by the previous owner, and we dont need them. How do I give them back to the council? I cannot find anything on the website. I tried Bulky Waste collection, but they dont have a category for this...(and they say they are quite strict 'Only listed bulky items can be collected') Appreciate any guidance! 🙂 Daniel Perhaps another question for the forum would be how strict the Bulky Waste collection is. Would they take stuff that isnt necessarily spelled out in the list of items on the website? I imagine its just a van with some staff that is not paying that much attention to what they take (as long as its reasonable...) Thanks!!! 🙂 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/344023-how-to-get-rid-of-extra-gardenwaste-large-bins/ Share on other sites
Froglander
I’d call environmental services and/or ask the switchboard for an email address for them. Put them in your front garden for them to collect. WomblingFree
Reporting it via the abandoned bins page (https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/abandoned-bins) worked for me a couple of years ago. Which makes sense I guess - they don't know (or probably care) whether a bin is abandoned or just surplus to requirements. 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/344023-how-to-get-rid-of-extra-gardenwaste-large-bins/#findComment-1663506 Share on other sites
ianr
The compost bin, unlike the brown one, won't be the council's. They sell them: currently £10 + delivery charge. Which isn't to say, assuming it was one of theirs, that they mightn't be interested in having back a used one for nothing if asked. Dogkennelhillbilly
Leave them on the pavement with a sign saying "free" - they'll be gone by tomorrow. Or if you want them shifted even quicker, make the sign say "£20 each, enquire within"... 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/344023-how-to-get-rid-of-extra-gardenwaste-large-bins/#findComment-1663514 Share on other sites
Daniel_CR17
Thanks to all for the advice, very glad to have this community for these enquiries. Here is how it got resolved in case its useful for anyone in the future: I had ordered some garden waste bags, and when the Veolia person came around I just asked them, and they were more than happy to take it no questions asked. 🙂 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/344023-how-to-get-rid-of-extra-gardenwaste-large-bins/#findComment-1663894 Share on other sites

ed_pete
If it's a compost bin then there is a request in the Wanted for one. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/344023-how-to-get-rid-of-extra-gardenwaste-large-bins/#findComment-1664532 Share on other sites
