Hi everyone,

Moving to East Dulwich (SE22) from Melbourne, Australia; I've never actually been to the area (husband has) so the only thing i've got to go on is google street view, instagram and a few rogue tiktoks. Looks great though and excited for the move.

Any cycling clubs that can be recommended or group rides? I'm thinking Peckham Cycle Club but wondering if there are any others in the area to consider; and secondly, any fenced dog parks / good spots to take our 2x dogs.

Cheers!

Friend recommends Penge Cycle Club.  Southwark Cyclists usually do two social cycle rides on Saturday, you don't need to be a member (London Cycling Campaign) but recommended.  They are advertised on the What's On section of EDF. And you can go on their other Borough group rides, Lewisham Cyclists often do long rides. Generally very cycle friendly around here, despite occasional on line hostility.

Penge are also a serious cycling club but seems more laid back than Dulwich Paragon.  I was waiting for someone from Dulwich Paragon to post as I can be a little mean 😊 Velodrome is most excellent and and well as track cycling there is mountain biking and cyclocross.  PM me if you want an informal group who regularly go out into Surrey and Kent on mountain bikes.

Re dogs: Goose Green is fully fenced - plenty of dogs.

While Peckham Rye isn't fully fenced, it is very large - so if your dogs like to run, but will come back when called they can get a lot of runaround there (again plenty of dogs),  and as a Melbournite - you can barrack for the SE London Giants aussie rules team there too. As an aussie now in ED a few years, love the area.

    • Ah sorry, it was comedy.
    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
