This is the trouble with southwark council and the London mayor  they want everyone to get rid of their cars and cycle or walk yet you have nowhere safe to lock your bike away. I saw one of those green cycle cages all smashed up just off lordship lane where bike thieves had stolen some bicycles from it , nowhere is safe.

I didn't say Southwark in my stats.  But "only"?  That's a lot of stolen cars.  I'm a little confused about what this thread is about.  The need for better street parking for bikes?  Better parking at home for bikes?  Cycle theft and the need to tackle this?  Or a general dislike of cyclists and Southwark's policy of encouraging active, healthy, sustainable travel that helps improve air quality.  Or maybe all of these😀

I don't know mal, you tell us

You're the one who took it away from an enquiry about bike storage to include cars !!!

You could argue that Southwark also provide free parking space on the street for cars too .  And over 100,000 of those get stolen each year.

I dont own a bicycle,  I own a car , but people still need to be able to store their bicycles safely and securely on the streets like the person who posted this thread originally was asking .

Actually, Mal, what you said in its entirety was

In normal usage the 'those' in your second sentence refers to the cars for which Southwark 'also provide free parking space'. You would have needed to say in your second sentence - 'And over 100,000 of cars freely parked in the UK get stolen...' Although of course the figures I quoted refer to all cars stolen, and not to those stolen from 'free' street parking - i.e. not off street or in garages , or in paid for parking spaces on road. For which I don't have figures. And of course as all those who live in CPZs know, Southwark does not provide free on-road parking in much of the borough. If you are going to 'throw remarks away', please do so accurately. Or make your hyperbole transparent.

In deed the op was about suggestions for bike storage, I'd reacted to the next post that had reverted to Southwark, pesky cyclists and bike theft.

Join LCC and ask Southwark Cyclists for advice on alternatives for storage.  Come on one of their rides, good to make friends.

I'm sorry Mal, there was nothing in Ted's post that mentioned pesky cyclists, he was simply drawing a parallel between southwarks desire for more cycling and not enough safe and secure storage

Your ability to twist the ordinary into weird hyperbolic  rants knows no bounds at times.

Maybe you should have gone to the opticians (you know the one) before replying 😉

    • Hi Merry Christmas no joy with that Paul Hackett email thanks
    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
