Hi,

I am looking for a pre-school for my daugther in East Dulwich or Dulwich Village, she is 2.5; ideally in the mornings. Can anyone let me know which are the pre-schools in the are and their opinion on them. I put her name down in Half Moon Lane Montessori but not sure we are getting a place before Sept 2014. I am desperate to get her into a routine and don't have much time to take her out in the few mornings I am off.

Thank you

Hi Sol,

If you haven't heard from Half Moon yet then she won't very likely be getting a place this year, they sent out offers ages ago for 2013.

Dulwich village pre-school is on the south circular between Dulwich College and the old Harvester, but even tho my daughter has been on the waiting list for almost a year I haven't heard from them or had an offer for sept 2013 so if you're not on that list then I don't think it's likely.

But in any case, Buds pre-school , which was also in a similar location on south circular has moved from that site near the village to East D, to the Goose Green centre in the church by Goose Green a few months ago. My 2.5 year old daughter started a couple of months ago and adores it. They offer mornings and usefully, the slots are 4 hours (9-1:00) rather than some of the others where it's more like 2.5 hours. However it is more expensive than some of the other pre-schools, tho of course when she gets to 3 your daughter will get 15 hours free so it would just be a question of paying for sessions in the in the mean time to secure a place. I believe they still have slots as there will be quite a few September leavers. Ring and speak to Olu if you're interested. The number is 020 8299 2255, but they finish term on Friday so try to call before then and go in for a look tomorrow if you can! The staff are lovely.

    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive!
    • I like the look of SD's Sweet and Sour chicken. It's a really good dish when made freshly and well. I'll need to try it. Sad that Oriental Star and Lucky House by Dulwich Library both closed at a similarish time. They were decent, reliable, "British Chinese" takeaways.
    • William S Spicer was a family-owned firm that initially made horse drawn delivery carts for breweries (especially Fullers Brewery in W London) and horse-drawn trams. With the advent of the internal combustion engine, they successfully made the transition to coachbuilding delivery vehicles London's leading department stores using German engines. WW2 interrupted their business for obvious reasons, and their postwar attempt to become the local assembler and distributor of Bulgarian "Izmama" trucks was not blessed with good fortune. In 1953, the company pivoted to being a full-service garage, leveraging their reputation for honesty and excellence.  In 1972, the Dulwich site was sold to its present owners. William S Spicer III (the grandson of the founder) retired to Lancashire, where he founded a sanctuary for the endangered ineptia beetle, which he had encountered in Bulgaria while travelling for business. In 1978, Spicer was awarded an OBE for conservation, and a newly-discovered  beetle was named after him by the Bulgarian People's National Academy of Sciences - Byturus Spicerius.
    • I'm glad all this talk of cheese has enticed David Peckham back to the forum.
