This new series of long-form conversations with local Southwark people should interest many of us. Big Ideas, Local Traction is the keynote. Launching mid July.DWident.thumb.jpeg.c1b902068a2de978407cf3dca17dac97.jpeg.

First up will be Dave Walker MBE, a mediator born and bred in Southwark who also trains young people in schools to mediate with their peers who have a beef with one another. So that's a win-win as the young person trained up feels great about life and themselves and actively contributes to better relations in the school community. Here's a trailer:

Today at midday PECKHAM PODCAST goes public on YouTube with its first guest, Dave Walker MBE. There are a couple of promos up there, so the channel exists. If you have a moment, do visit the channel and subscribe ... that would be much appreciated. Here is the channel link:

In two weeks time we publish the second edition with Colombian vicar Fernando Carrillo, brand new in Peckham on the Old Kent Road. Born in a Miami prison, ordained at St Paul's Cathedral!  Truly an amazing story. (You couldn't make it up.)

    • DKH was two form entry, it is now one form entry to cope with the fact it was far more under subscribed than other schools in the area. They had actually combined year groups into single classes, 3/4 and 5/6.  When a school changes name, it’s usually because of a bad reputation perhaps the results.  The new name is dry with no history unlike its current name. It’s a very sketchy decision. It’s an expensive vanity project for someone.  What  will happen if the name change does not increase applications to the school?
    • @first mate I assume Alice made a mistake, as she removed her reaction.  I was wondering about park wardens. As I said, there was one there last night, who was incredibly helpful and proactive. As well as bringing me to the police, he caught up with a young guy on a bike who'd earlier been the victim of an attempted theft by these kids and linked him up with the police too. But I do wonder, as I've only very occasionally seen him riding around, how many they have and what hours they patrol. I've no doubt they'd be a strong deterrent if they had a better presence. They were nowhere to be seen the first time around.  Update: I've just found this: https://services.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/community-wardens The guy in the photo at the bottom of the page was the lovely warden of last night and I've just now remembered him telling me he's based in Burgess Park. Anyway, there needs to be more of them, as I rarely see one in Peckham.
    • Some of us oldies would associate Grove with the old Grove Vale School (which I went to in the 1950s)
