Windmill Gardens, SW2 5DA

Shakespeare was master of the romcom, and this is his finest: warring ex-lovers, a ruined wedding, and an aptly named villain,  John the Bastard. Gossip, wit and jealousy abound in this merry romp. Can everything be resolved by a bungling neighbourhood watch and one final piece of trickery?

Six actors and Open Bar Theatre‘s trademark two-storey set will take over Windmill Gardens for this hilarious, fun Shakespearean classic this summer, in full Elizabethan costume and with original songs by their resident composer that you’ll leave singing all summer long, this is Shakespeare for everyone to enjoy, from the aficionado to those who “don’t do Shakespeare”.

Bring a picnic or grab a drink from our licenced cafe and enjoy an evening of Shakespeare that is plenty of fun for all! Proceeds from the event help us continue our work at Brixton Windmill!

Open Bar Theatre
Recent Off West End Theatre Award winners Open Bar Theatre are usually to be found in Fullers’ pub gardens over the summer. They are in Windmill Gardens for just one night!

Run time
The performance lasts approximately 2 hours including a 20 minute interval.

    • As the days shorten having evening fireworks for e.g. birthday parties becomes more realistic, the idea that fireworks is only about Guy Fawkes day or New Year's Eve is not a rule. I personally do not like fireworks, but other do, and I would see no reason to stop other's pleasure. I am sure the local Puritans will object, and there are issues about disturbing wild life with unexpected noise. But I'm in favour of simple pleasures. And many do like fireworks.
    • That's great you have the cat! Sorry to interfere, and feel free to ignore this, but it might not be a great idea to post your mobile number on a public forum? You can message the owner on the forum via a private message.
    • Copleston centre hire for adult parties
    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
