Tried with a similar type of saw but did not work. Possibly the chrome was too slippery for the teeth?

yeah, getting started can be tricky, but it should be possible.  Get the rail on a table and someone to hold it still then i would use the saw held up against my finger in the place you want to cut and push slowly/gently back and forth until the cut has started (obv not a recommendation, but a fine toothed hacksaw can't really cut skin very easily).

An angle grinder just seems like overkill.  Good luck!

Another idea here:

    • Yes, I saw my first of the season a few days ago and now I'm seeing lots of them!
    • Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture,   ? Does your broadbrush bias extend to Welsh, Scottish and N Irish/Irish waiting staff also or is it only non-native speakers that you admire unconditionally?! Hospitality staff are a varied lot, as are their moods and attitudes at any one given time.
    • I've noticed the same, thankfully they're too fluttery for my cat to catch. I've noticed the white ones always seem to travel in pairs?
    • Jersey Moths are about and have been for the last fortnight or so.
