Help your child stand out in their UCAS application with this exciting journal club opportunity, chaired by an enthusiastic research scientist working in Biological Sciences.

This online programme bridges the gap between curriculum-based learning and university-style independent study, through an inspiring introduction to scientific papers.

Ambitious STEM students will take part in guided weekly group sessions in which they will discuss newly-published science with their peers. Before each session, students will receive a research article and tailored supporting documents to help them prepare for an engaging 60-minute discussion.

In this highly motivational environment, your child will:

  • Access recently-published science plus a variety of other learning materials.
  • Understand how science is conducted and written across a range of fields.
  • Develop their critical thinking and self-study skills, preparing them for university.
  • Discuss novel research methods with their peers and a professional scientist.

This unique opportunity is sure to spark your child’s curiosity in new or familiar topics in Biology, improving their personal statement and interview performance while also helping with their A-Levels.

Further details:

  • Cost? £160 for the 8-week programme, equivalent to £20 per weekly session.
  • Where? Online, meaning location is no barrier to access.
  • When? Sept/Oct 2024.
  • Who? Aimed at A-Level Biology students but also helpful for other STEM subjects.
  • Who am I? I attained my Bachelors and Masters degrees in 2015 and PhD in 2020, during which I published empirical research in various international journals (eg. Current Biology). Since then, I worked as a Research Associate at RBG Kew, where I honed my supervisory skills.

    • I've worked on sustainable transport for a number of years and I doubt it.  A mix of performance, hi tec and possibly status.  Drivers of say a Nissan Leaf or a Zoe, certainly early adopters, yes the environment is a key factor. I've test driven many EVs in my career and Tesla was my least favourite apart From an entry price Indiab car, made for mass adoption in Asia where the quality was awful. I started a thread on EV recommendations but got no interest apart from some silly comments.  Perhaps some of you have a Tesla and think differently. My dislike pre dates Trump becoming a fanatic.
    • So pleased to have discovered Victor and Karl through the recommendations on this forum. They have done 2 jobs for me now, putting up pictures and installing  and painting a new shed door. They  were punctual, reliable and nice to have around the house. The workmanship was excellent and the costs very reasoable.I was more than happy. I will be using their services again soon
