There has been an increase of teenagers sell magazines outside Superdrug with the money going to a knife crime charity.

There has recently been an article in the press highlighting that this organisation is being investigated by the police and charity committees, as they are not a registered charity and do not have a licence to sell on the street.

The company was set up by 2 university student for overseas. They employ teens to sell the magazine for £5 and then push them to upsell and ask for further donations and even D/D. The teens are paid a set amount and earn bonuses for the amount of magazines they sell and a % of the upsell donation. This has nothing to do with knife crime and charity.

How you spend your money is your choice, but please be mindful as they are targeting older people to get money.

unfortunately they are claiming to be a charity. Last week I was approached and when I started asking questions where the money is going, do they have permission etc the supervisor came running over (he’s always around watching the teens) and his exact words were “if you’re not going to give any cash you need to move to and let my team earn their wage” when I asked him not to be aggressive he called me a “fat b*tch”. 3 members of the public witnesses it and a kind gentleman stepped in because he was afraid the guy was going to hit me.

we called the police and this was reported and they confirmed they have alot of issues with this company and their aggressive tactics. again I am not telling anyone how to spend their money. If they want to give to this cause then please feel free just go your research (good and bad) and understand the money doesn’t go where you think it goes.

Farringdon Station and Bond St station has dozens of these young people working for this "charity" Its actually overwhelming as they just seem to accost me one after the other relentlessly..I DO care about knife crime, I DO want to see young people from urban areas encouraged and supported in ways that help them forge carrers, grow and prosper and get away from the temptation of 'gangs' etc..

However..I've never been tempted to be sucked in to their spiel because its actually just too in my face too much one after another jumping in my path walking alongside me talking to me..one gives up and another immediately takes their place.

I'm a woman in my mid 60's and due to being a londoner born and bred in the inner city I just keep walking and go 'no,sorry' but I'm sure some may be intimidated or worn down by them..

I dont blame the kids they're trying to hassle for a wage and to be honest most have been very polite but it is just exhausting to have to run the gauntlet of youths in ones face asking for money.

especially after a long exhausting day at work

    • I was lucky that I received a student grant from 1990-1995 first 3 years for degree and 2 years post graduate bursary. Both were based on my income and I did not have to pay back. Eldest daughter got student loan and after 20 years managed to pay it off, Youngest daughter still paying hers 18 years later. Granddaughter - still paying after 6 years. Grandson decided against FE and secured an apprentenship. I am glad that I am an old codger and not young anymore !

    • It is not only Southwark - our grandson, partner and 7 year old had a one bed council flat for years in Harlow Essex and all the properties offered were in poor condition. They eventually took a property as if they refused another one they would drop to the bottom of the Housing List. It was damp and in need of a level of renovation. Having lived in these conditions for a while they were offered better council accommodation recently, but further away from child's school. They had to pay 2 lots of rent for a few weeks as council had to undertake work in the new premises before they could move in,
    • Just had an interior decorating job done by Andy. The final outcome looks lovely and he did some remedial work at the same time to fill in gaps in the ceiling (due to previous electrical work) and to remediate any similar areas to ensure a polished overall look. Would highly recommend him for any similar job, he quoted a very reasonable price for the job as well. Thanks Andy!
