Good Luck Rob and Alex!ย  When me and my family managed to get our three bedroomย  house in ED in 1980 we had two children and my wife was pregnant with our second son. The house was semi derelict, wiring condemned, damp proof shot, roof needed fixing and so did most of the window frames. We got the upstairs wired and made ourselves at home upstairs with the front bedroom as kitchen/living room and the works begun, then we had snow and blizzards the following winter with no central heating! My recently retired carpenter father in law and I started by rebuilding the bathroom and then the rest of the jobs. Luckily we got grants from the council then, which helped, but having a full time job to pay the 11% interest mortgage I had to work weekends and holidays for about two years to finish everything. Well, now it was all worth it living in the heart of ED near the market but I'm still up a ladder this week at 76 years old to redecorate the front of the house again but it keeps me fit!

    • Some of you may have never been to a post office on a Saturday when one or more people are posting their ebay parcels and you wait yonks.ย  Just one of those things.ย  I'm more concerned about the speed of the Royal Mail.ย  I may start a thread on this!
    • If you're going British, Marks and Sparks do a fantastic Cornish Cruncher Cheddar (get the three year old if it's on offer) and a Stilton/Stichelton which are wrapped in something more like wax paper.ย  I'm pretty sure they used to do a Stinking Bishop which had minimal plastic wrapping, as well.
    • Thanks to everybody for the responses. Agree that ยฃ50-60 is somewhat excessive so supermarket is likely to be the route we take.
    • If you can track down the owners of the now defunct Heritage Cheese in the village, there could be some stock-clearance bargains if you don't mind your cheese a little pre-nibbled.
