Our holiday cottage of 20 years is available at a small cost for family and 'new' friends to enjoy. Ferry and flight costs for the summer are pretty reasonable at present so it may be worth considering before they go up. It is free for the school summer hols after the beginning of  August, at May half term and for most of the spring and also into the Autumn. I'll upload more pictures later

PM me for full details. Very family friendly but suitable for couples and groups too.

Built in 1870 this stone cottage is in a peaceful hamlet close to Huelgoat in North Finistere. 40mins from coasts, 5 mins from town and village. Wild and less wild walks, cycling (a number of bikes are provided), canoeing (inflatable in the house) nature, cultural stuff, smaller theme parks, tree top adventure and plenty of other activities. A gentle nine hole golf course.

Large bedroom with double four poster bed, bunks and spare single bed. Second double bedroom. Large lounge with wood burner, Bed settee downstairs and glamping in the barn! Bedding, BBQ, games, table football, bikes, canoe and other stuff provided. Refurbished bathroom with large walk in shower. Comfortably sleeps six, potentially more, could take two young families, 1/2 an acre of land.

Ideal if you like the outdoor life, star gazing after you have seen bats, a bit of privacy and want to avoid the masses. A minimum of a week but flexible on arrival and departure days.

Here's the small print - no broadband, it just isn't worth it. There is reasonable 4g, and we use the local pubs free broadband if we want to do more serious catching up.  Please only get back to me if you are serious, and if you ask whether there is broadband I will delete your post as you wont have read my description!

I can give plenty of advice on how to get there, we usually drive getting the ferry over to Western France, occasionally fly to Rennes, and twice have cycled from South London.

Just returned from a mild and misty few days in Brittany putting the cottage to bed for the winter.  A good time to consider a spring or summer trip to France, even if not our lovely place!  Whilst the ferries are still relatively cheap.  This time we spent a day in Nantes, and also visited the standing stones at Carnac; last Autumn we did a day in Bayeux before catching the ferry back, having never seen the tapestry before - highly recommended!

    • It has come to this author’s attention that the world of 4+ admissions — that most enigmatic of educational rites — continues to bewilder even the most composed of parents. Fear not. For in a former life, I was not merely a humble observer, but a seasoned educator of over twenty years, and Head of Pre-Prep for a distinguished dozen. Now, with quill exchanged for touchscreen, I have taken to that most modern of salons — Instagram — to dispense guidance, answer frequently whispered questions, and illuminate the shadowy corners of school selection with clarity and calm. Each post bears my signature twist: a blend of insight, levity, and the occasional raised eyebrow. Should you find yourself adrift in the sea of admissions, I suggest you peruse my latest dispatch. • Perhaps Gooseygreeny was not familiar with the wildlife before Gala was imposed on the park, since when its value to wildlife has deteriorated. The Park had never been disturbed before, as the council had respected it as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, so only the Common was licensed by them as a site for events. The first time Gala held their event, there was a tree with woodpeckers nesting in it right in the middle of the main field they used and thrushes, blackbirds and great tits nesting within the shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the field. The woodpeckers were thriving on ants from the anthills in the grass. To those of us who used to enjoy watching the wildlife, it was very obviously a Site of Importance for a variety of birds. Despite being accessed by the public and their dogs, it had been relatively undisturbed,  which was one of the main reasons why it was so special and why I have been opposed to the Gala festival being held during the bird nesting season.
    • So dangerous!    Can you be more specific about the road this was in and when you report it?  Maybe there’s some CCTV footage available
