Hi,

We're getting underground flooring throughout our house (via a heat pump) and are going to replace the flooring (living room, kitchen, bedrooms, etc). We're thinking about bamboo flooring, and have found this company that seems quite well recommended: https://www.bambooflooringcompany.com

My questions:

1) Has anyone had experiences with them (or other bamboo flooring), either good or bad?

2) The company won't install the flooring (since they're not local) so we need someone to do the actual install. Bamboo flooring can be a bit tricky, we've heard, so does anyone have recommendations of someone who has done a good job installing? (Checkatrade hasn't given us any good results.)

Thanks in advance!

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

We used this bamboo company and love it. We have in across the whole of the downstairs. It looks like wood and seems to be wearing well (3 years old now).

re: fitting, we had a renovation so the builders did it. They said it was more tricky laying the herringbone as you need a really flat floor so they needed to level the floors underneath first. My husband had it in his flat in standard plank version and it was apparently straightforward to lay. I would think most flooring fitters could do this- sorry the builder we used is no longer in london.

Good luck!

Hey, we also used this company and 14 years on the bamboo still looks great! We've got it in the living room and several bedrooms.

We used the woven type of bamboo, a bit thicker on top of our (very poor quality ) floorboards with underlay - great insulation.

Installation was very straight forward with the click type.

Best of luck

Hello,

You've probably already moved ahead with your floor now, but I wanted to add that I have used this company. Although the floor looks beautiful, it is very easily marked. If I drop my keys I have a hole in it. Goodness forbid if I was to drop anything else.

I do love the floor, but it is hard work, and I am constantly conscious. I wouldn't buy it again.

Best wishes.

    • You're forgetting that the Labour Administration under Blair - while not directly responsible for privatisation - actually reinforced the privatisation by changing their licences and basically cementing the agreement, ignoring warnings, failing to return the industry to the public sector, and there were in fact tenuous links of the Labour Administration to the private profit making sector. It's like saying the bathroom flooded because Thatcher turned the tap on - but not mentioning that Blair put the plug in and turned the tap on full

    • It's taken time to see the legacy of Thatcher's free market policy but we're really seeing it now with utilities, housing and infrastructure 😢.  I think I've remembered correctly that on Dirty Business they said we are the only country in the world to have our water supply totally privately owned.   When it gets taken back into public ownership the private owners will rub their hands together with glee having withdrawn massive profits and bonuses over the last 30 + years, let the infrastructure go to pot and now have the taxpayer come back in after this long period of neglect and pay for the failing systems to be rebuilt.  If you think those companies will suffer at the hands of government then you have more faith than I.  Thatcherism has a lot to answer for ☹️
