"The streets are paved with fines" - Interesting article, with quotes from the AA, from the BBC

"It seems TfL may need drivers to offend and generate income instead of complying with road rules."

Wow, this is so unbelievably cynical of TfL. Drivers should totally band together and stick it up Khan's arse by not committing traffic offences on red routes. That'll show him!

Good heavens, how many threads can you have on the demonisation of motorists?

I guess that depends on how many ways the pips of motorists can be squeezed 😅

It's a bit off the point but one thing I don't understand - happy to be corrected/educated, is that it seems traffic road mortality and fatality risk is considerably higher in the Netherlands than over here? Yet the Netherlands is one of the cycling pioneers. One of the much expressed aims of our myriad traffic changes is to save lives. Why then do we have a better record on this than one of the world's cycling centres?

I didn't realise that but looking at the stats it does seem to be true. I do know the Dutch have a high per capita car ownership rate and a lot drive and cycle but why the mortality rate is so much higher than ours is interesting. Anyone have any clue?

I was also surprised. It may be a complete red herring but given many more people cycle in the Netherlands I somehow expected them score lower than us, in that the 'goodness' of cycling would somehow permeate the culture ( I am being a bit tongue in cheek). As you say Rockets, perhaps just many more car owners despite the fact they cycle.

I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
