sugarkanedee
Hi everyone , just for your information below I want to share an important experience regarding my daughter’s recent visit to a bank in Halifax. She went in to obtain a new card since she just turned 18. While there, she met with a staff member in a side room to sort everything out. During their conversation, the bank employee mentioned that she might have funds in a child trust account that she could withdraw. He offered to help her access it but then asked for her phone, added his Snapchat name, and said he would call her later that day. Fortunately, my daughter shared this with me, and I promptly reported the incident. The manager assured me that the appropriate action would be taken, I have yet to check . Since then, I've been keeping a closer eye on her phone, and I recently noticed a disturbing WhatsApp conversation from a number in Nigeria ,my daughter engaged in the conversation and it really was disturbing We can never keep on top of it but we cant try. Sue
Was this a local Halifax branch? Also, could your daughter change her phone number etc, or would that cause too many complications? sugarkanedee
That's a good point Sue. It was the Peckham branch 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351677-halifax-staff-attempt-to-collect-my-daughter%E2%80%99s-personal-details-to-access-her-child-trust-fund-disturbing-phone-message/#findComment-1681459 Share on other sites
hfoster
Really you should report this to the police, even if they take no action there will be a record that someone has reported this person for potentially illegal activity. It may be the precursor to more serious abuse in the future. 3 4 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351677-halifax-staff-attempt-to-collect-my-daughter%E2%80%99s-personal-details-to-access-her-child-trust-fund-disturbing-phone-message/#findComment-1681461 Share on other sites
Sue
I hope the Peckham branch have taken appropriate action. I would have thought unnecessarily asking for somebody's personal details in the course of his job would warrant immediate dismissal. But also, he could just go and get a similar job somewhere else. Presumably he won't get a reference from the Halifax, but there are probably ways round that, unless all the banks have some sort of list which they circulate of people to avoid, which I doubt. 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351677-halifax-staff-attempt-to-collect-my-daughter%E2%80%99s-personal-details-to-access-her-child-trust-fund-disturbing-phone-message/#findComment-1681473 Share on other sites
Happyme5
Yeap make contact with Halifax head office. You never know if there is more than one staff member involved in a branch. Pretty brazen to do this. It will probably be something that they are doing quite often 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351677-halifax-staff-attempt-to-collect-my-daughter%E2%80%99s-personal-details-to-access-her-child-trust-fund-disturbing-phone-message/#findComment-1682406 Share on other sites
