Have just broken my wrist- in 4 weeks we are due to go on a hiking holiday in southern Spain.

I am waiting to hear from the tour group but it may not be the most sensible thing to do.

We will still have the flights though, so I wondered if anyone could make a recommendation for a holiday in that vicinity that would depend on driving (partner doesn't) and would cater somewhat for the restless people we are...

Yeah, it's just hiking, all our bags transported, so that's a plus.

It's not just that I might not be comfortable - I agree, I think ill be fine-

But it involves some sierras hiking, and I don't know whether scrambling about uphill and down in the middle of rural Spain is very sensible when you're already vulnerable.

I have a 13mo son and more than anything need to make sure I don't break my arm or leg!

One option would be to find a smaller town along the Costa del Sol and rent an apartment for a week to stay in - there should be buses going across to various towns. I would say go east from Malaga rather than west, but that's because I really like Nerja (very English in some ways, but you can still have a great Spanish experience if you speak Spanish and stay away from the obvious places) - large enough town to do things and easy enough to walk around without needing a car. Alternately rent an apartment in one of the villages in the hills if you prefer that to the beach, though they'll generally have less to do. Hopefully someone on the forum has suggestions about really special places as we'd like to go there next year - no more holidays this year, alas!

Or you could take the train or bus to Granada (you have to make a connection for the train) or Sevilla and make it into a touristy holiday. Both cities don't require a car and are a lot of fun. With the Alhambra in Granada you will need to book very soon as the tickets tend to get sold out for the summer months.

Hope you heal soon!

It's not quite what either of you are after (transport probably necessary/essential, not nerja!) but padre de aviles is awesome for a relaxed break. In the mountins about 20m from Malaga, 15 mins to the beach, Malaga center is lovely, access to some of the costa del sol fun (we def went to a zoo somewhere?). We went with our then 14m old son and had a lovely 2 weeks a couple of years ago...

Don't do costa del sol do costa de la luz. Stay in Vejer de la frontera. Fabulous place. Beaches 10 mins away. Cadiz 20. Seville an hour. If u do decide nerja, frigiliana much nicer place to stay. There's a great 2 bedroom house in the old part of the village on owners direct.

    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!
    • "Sep, you don't even live here."   ???
    • "You have no idea why"   To be fair Sue, it's blindingly obvious to anyone who has a conversation with anyone who isn't a Corbyn supporter. And even some who liked Corbyn (like me initially) found him somewhat flaky even at his most popular But let's say you are right and I have NO idea why anybody might not vote for him. They still didn't vote for him. He lost two elections. The second one badly (and strongly predicted but the stubborn old goat wouldn't budge so we we were stuck with Johnson and another 3 million PMs in the 5 years that followed) So even with ZERO evidence, we have our eyes and ears and brains But we do have evidence   https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/27022-their-own-words-why-voters-abandoned-labour
    • As I said, it was my understanding. I worded it very carefully. I didn't/don't know for sure, so clearly not a fact. And hardly an "opinion", which is something completely different. You have no idea what reason anybody might have had for not voting for him (unless you can point to some opinion poll results which actually asked people?)
