NOTE 2. The rides here are for next week, Nov 9th. There is still plenty space on the already posted rides for this week (Nov 2nd). London Bridge to Parliament Hill.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/parliament-hill-ride-from-london-bridge-tickets-1060924627119 >  and Six Bridges Ride from Canada Water.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/six-london-bridges-cycle-ride-tickets-1060896182039 >

On the 9th Nov we have 2 rides, Eva leading a new ride with a Libraries theme with early 9.30 start and Bruce with a another new ride to Charlton House, usual 10am start.

Charlton House is one of the finest surviving Jacobean manor houses in England. With free entry you can explore the Jacobean rooms. and the walled gardens and get refreshments in Frillys Tea Room.
Start from Canada Water at 10am on a 12-mile route hoping to finish in 3 hours. It will also be possible to join the ride at Cutty Sark (be there at 10.20). Outward leg Cycleway 4 to Greenwich, then past Cutty Sark and into Greenwich Park. Up the hill, exit to Vanbrugh Park, through Blackheath Standard and more road to Charlton House. Break there to look at the house and/or get a coffee. Return through Charlton Park, past Charlton Lido and on to Sun in the Sands underpass. At Blackheath use paths and quiet roads to the top of Blackheath Hill and make a small diversion to The Point viewpoint. From there drop down to Cycleway 10 at Halfpenny Bridge then continue on C10 to just before the Millwall Ground. Take path to Oldfield Grove then across to Greenland Dock and back to Canada Water.
Eva will lead a ride to a select group of London's libraries, from the more off-piste choices such as the Marx Memorial Library and the Library of Freemasonry to the magnificent British Library. It's a fairly flat ride of ca 18km, starting at the Needle at London Bridge with the earlier starting time of 9.30 am. Including a coffee break we expect to be back by 12.30 pm. Map of probable route, avoiding the Lord Mayor’s Show, at: London libraries from LBG v09.11.2024 | bike Tour | Komoot

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • It happened again tonight. This time a group of kids ( I hate saying that, because it makes them sound less intimidating than they are), threatened to throw a water bomb at me. When I dared them, they started lobbing them. Then they started saying they were going to kill my dog and one of them jumped over the fence of the Japanese Garden and took a running kick at my dog, who got out of the way. He jumped back over the fence, then came back, came within a meter of me and threw a water bomb really hard at me.  I can't be sure it was exactly the same crowd as last time, though I suspect the male ring leader could be.  The police came and were amazing - as was the park warden - and are fairly confident of the identity of one of them and think they may have tried to arrest him before.  There were maybe as many as 15 of them, aged 16-18, all Caucasian, girls and boys (girls being just as aggressive as the boys). The ring leader is a slight man, dark hair / eyes, possibly with facial hair about 5'6", petite, wearing an all-blue tracksuit.  So please be careful when you're in the park around 6.30 / 7pm. The local SNT have been informed.

    • But it was under our electoral system in 2019! This must be part of the right-wing media conspiracy that did for Corbyn....;-) Corbyn was very closely allied to Unite and Len....
