Just a quick recommendation for roofer Russell Perring (m 07852972052). He recently rebuilt and put coping stones on the parapets of our roof. He and his team were efficient, pleasant to have around and did an outstanding job. They're not the cheapest, but they do the job properly, and you get what you pay for. We're very happy with their work.

Hi,

I too would like to wholeheartedly endorse Russel Perring. He did a great job on our roof last year but I called him the other day as a very large piece of masonry above our bedroom bay window was hanging off. Despite not being his area of expertise, he came to have a look. It was very lucky that he did as the enormous piece of solid stone was about to fall and destory the outside of the house. He and a colleage got it down for me and are going to sort out the rest. As a result I owe half the outside of house and a debt of gratitude to Russell. As a result I can't recommend him hightly enough.

    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
