The new ride detailed below is for next week, Nov 23rd. There is still space on the already posted rides for this week (Nov 16th). Camden Market.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-camden-market-cycle-ride-tickets-1075712066749 >  and Battersea Power Station and Park.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-to-battersea-power-station-and-park-cycle-ride-tickets-1075738014359 >

On the 23rd Nov we have one ride organised so far, a ride along the Northern Line to Morden.  Still trying to get a shorter ride finalised, when we do will send out a further notice.

NOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit number.

A new ride from Simon S.
Meet 10am at Waterloo Millennium Green in Baylis Rd (opposite Spur Road and the end of Lower Marsh, https://maps.app.goo.gl/MQypzEA2NzT3uj4r8, ///knots.caves.wisdom ). Start along Bayis Rd to Lambeth North Station then Plane-tree-lined Kennington Road to join CS7 at Kennington Park. All the way down CS7 through Clapham, Balham, Tooting, to Colliers Wood, where it peters out. Then on to Morden and the end of the line. Up to St Helier past the (tucked-away) Baitul Futuh Mosque and down to Mitcham Common. Pick up Cycleway 5 at Streatham Common station and wend our way back to Tooting Common for a coffee stop. Then continuing on C5 through Abbeville village and Clapham Common to Vauxhall and eventually Waterloo. This was a favourite ride during the Covid lockdowns, when the roads were gloriously free of traffic. Nearly all on cycleways, though some traffic alongside.
About 39km / 24 miles, only +125m and no big hills. Estimate ride will take 4½ hours, so be back about 1.30.

On the 23rd Nov we now have a second  ride organised. This is in addition  to the long Norther Line ride already posted, link:  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-northern-line-and-beyond-cycle-ride-tickets-1083109111509 >

A favourite short ride, this anti-clockwise loop follows the Thames on both banks. Lots of history and always something new to see. Easy 11 mile ride using DLR to cross river at Greenwich (travel pass or equivalent needed) and returning over London Bridge. Meet up at Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station and next to Canada Water Library. Route includes Russia Woodland, Deptford Historic Waterfront, Mudchute DLR, Shadwell Basin, Canal-side paths to St Katherines, London Bridge. Coffee stop on return leg. No hills, mostly off road, cycle lanes or quiet streets. Simon K. leading. It will be possible to join the ride at Greenwich Station. Meet 10.25am outside the front of the station on Greenwich High Rd, near the Novotel (not by the DLR entrance). Please indicate on the registration form that you will be joining at Greenwich. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • I think part of the problem may be that if you are a cyclist and  can see cars and pedestrians after dark, e.g. lit by streetlights and headlights, you don't realise that they can't see you when your bike has no lights and you are dressed in dark non reflective clothing. The other part of the problem may be that you just don't care, of course. ETA: Do Lime bikes not have lights?
    • It was normal cyclists, in rush hour traffic, in the dark, in the rain. Just really want people to realise it’s that time of year even more careful and to get kitted out.
    • The other consideration is that users of Lime bikes and similar, plus younger pedal cyclists, probably don't view themselves as 'cyclists' as such and so don't get kitted out or even consider that they need to. I also agree that earlier nights are another factor for the casual or hire bike user more used to cycling in the summer. I don't think I have ever seen a hire bike or scooter user wearing a helmet or reflective gear- presumably that is because the bike is just viewed as a transport tool for short term use and users do not want to be encumbered by any of the safety gear? Before anyone jumps on me for anecdotal evidence and speculation, this is just what I have seen round here, there may be hordes of similar users elsewhere that are kitted out.
