I may have the name of the pub wrong but... Did they just paint over a significant mural on the side of the pub?

I know people don't consider murals important but this one was painted by a significant artist

Mural by Remi/Rough, side wall of The Bishop, Crawthew Grove and Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London SE22 8EW

I hadn’t realised it had been painted over. Seems a damn shame.

It wasn't one of the murals connected with the project reinterpreting  paintings from Dulwich Picture Gallery, so far as I know,  so I guess nobody was protecting it or bothered about it, sadly.

It was awful, in my opinion.

I liked it!

I'm very glad the one on the side of what is now The Lordship has gone though.

But sad about the one which used to be up by The Plough and was painted over with something else completely.

I hear it's going to replaced by William Bouguereau's 1850 Dante and Virgil in Hell, or Mattia Preti's Martyrdom of St Peter, circa 1660.

Nah, the windows of the men’s bogs are in the wrong place for either of those.

Just because something is abstract doesn’t make it dull…

Also the artist is a respected artist who has created street art all over london and the world. Commissioned by councils as well. The piece deserved to be protected

What piece needs to be protected, the one that's been painted over?

Was on Crawthew Grove yesterday morning talking to a lady about the new mural. Because it's on the side of The Bishop she said the new artwork should be a bishop banging his bishop. Not sure why she was giggling. Anyway, thought this was a good idea so I've emailed Justin Welby and Rowan Williams to see if they'd like to get involved. Keep you posted   x

    • Well, they do turn them away from the A&E route at Kings and rightly so they employ GPs and if after triaging you’re determined to have a GP type problem you are sent to see one of the GPs on site or close to the site.
    • My bike (a ELOPS 120 step over classic from Decathlon) was stolen from outside The Belham this afternoon. I locked it up while I collected my kids, then the street was so busy that I left it there while I walked them home. Did a few other things at home, came back about 5.30pm and it was gone. Sharing just in case anyone sees it or finds it anywhere - it’s a few years old and the chain is a bit rusty/makes a clicking sound so maybe there’s a slight chance someone would dump it! Really annoying and just a reminder to be really careful with bikes. The picture shows the bike model from the Decathlon website.
    • Thanks, I didn't know that.  People are even more stupid than I thought then, if they are willing to wait hours in A&E for an ingrown toenail. I presume they don't get put at the front of the queue. Why isn't the 111 service more widely advertised? That puts you in touch with a doctor, who will advise on the phone or visit, and if necessary  you will be advised to go to A&E or they will arrange an ambulance to take you.
