This is the point. We can see the effects of the erosion of democracy elsewhere in the world right now; it is disturbing to see a Labour council turn a blind eye to what a consulted majority think and instead impose the agenda it wants. The council had no mandate to make these local changes, but it has gamed the system to make them anyway.

Annual concentrations of roadside nitrogen dioxide (NO2) almost halved in London between 2016 and 2023. And preliminary figures indicate London’s annual NO2 levels were lowest on record in 2023 – lower even than first year of COVID-19 lockdowns. So it's fairly clear that the mayors policies are having a significant impact on air quality.

Do you have links to these statistics please? The only positive stats I've seen were from lockdown, when clearly pollution decreased.

Is there any LTN that has majority support in its local area (and i am not talking about a single street that has the closure)? It seems like they are installed on the whims of councillors and a few vocal activist groups who are in cahoots with the council and then residents have to live with the dire displacement consequences and are then ignored and belittled by councils and the pro-LTN lobby when they dare say they may not be working.

Plus they help generate millions in fines, as per stats mentioned above. LTNs are a bad idea aside from for those who live on the roads that have been closed or cyclists.

Odd confusing representative democracy with Putin invading Ukraine.  Look at any democratic organisation and they will implement policies where they don't go out to members.  Labour is broadly centre left, probably supporting the environment, active travel, workers' rights, the welfare state etc etc.  Not sure what you are expecting?   Tory boroughs/governments also do much if this, until Sunak, all Tory led governments this millennium were very supportive of active travel, Johnson introduced the ULEZ which he expected would be extended to the circulars, Tory boroughs have parking controls and road restrictions.  Five years on I doubt if the LTNs are going away.

I have not seen any stats showing air quality getting worse in London. Data show the exact opposite, air quality improving, both across the capital, and in SE22 specifically.

Could you perhaps provide the sources you're referring to?

Here is the official air quality monitoring data (NO2) for the local area:

    • But we’re not in Canada so why celebrate their recent election? Wasn’t their winner our Bank of England director up until his defection to his homeland of Canada? He caused chaos  in this country with his put down of everything British and his many dismal words about the effects of Brexit on this country.
    • I expect that they consider it should be a free choice what to do with your waste, and that segregating it is a waste of money, no doubt it's all a woke conspiracy.  I expect that others are more up to speed with Reform policies. I should have asked Nigel when I was drinking with him.  Well within the vicinity of him in Westminster pubs a couple of times.
    • Let's see how a Leader and party that thrive on division and demonising elements of our society actually do when they have to deliver. Let's hope that the two main parties don't consider that the best way to fight Reform is to become like then. Even less reason to visit the small town where I grew up.  Not a cause for any joy or celebration. Happy to celebrate the Canadian result.
    • The Reform Party has surely taken the Conservatives and Labour by surprise? I’ve been a Conservative voter since the age of 18 and voted for them in the General Election last Summer. Sadly Labour were elected but their policies on so many issues have been their downfall as they did not stick to them.
