Recommended Posts

For 11th Jan we have a new longish ride from Cutty Sark to Hall Place, Bexley and a short Thames Loop ride from Canada Water, this one of our regular routes.

11th Jan, Ride 1, Cutty Sark to Hall Place  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cutty-sark-to-hall-place-cycle-ride-tickets-1128830314859  >  Hall Place started as a Tudor mansion and was then extended in the 17th century. There is lots of history, fine gardens and a modern Riverside Café (info at https://www.hallplace.org.uk/). Start 10am, Cutty Sark, near the foot tunnel entrance. To begin the ride, we go up Greenwich hill then across Blackheath. Then to Eltham Park South, then on to Danson Park on the left and Blackfen on the right. From there to Hall Place. This ride is mostly cycle path and quiet roads. After our coffee break will return by the route we came. Aim to finish by 1:30pm. Mike K. leading.

11th Jan, Ride 2, Thames Loop  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/thames-loop-cycle-ride-from-canada-water-tickets-1127942740099 >  Always something new to see on this favourite short anti-clockwise loop that follows the Thames on both banks. This easy 11 mile ride uses DLR to cross river at Greenwich (travel pass or equivalent needed) and returns over London Bridge. Meet up 10am in Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station and next to Canada Water Library. Route includes Russia Woodland, Deptford Historic Waterfront, Mudchute DLR, Shadwell Basin and canal-side paths to St Katherines. Coffee stop on return leg. No hills, mostly off road, cycle lanes or quiet streets. Simon K. leading. It will be possible to join the ride at Greenwich Station. Meet 10.25am outside the front of the station on Greenwich High Rd, near the Novotel (not by the DLR entrance). Please indicate on the registration form that you will be joining at Greenwich. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • I normally vote Lib Dem and will continue to do so.
    • the reason Tories have lost votes is because they have lost trust primarily. the voters didn't vote for what the Tories did, but what they promised. you can't blame the voters for the outcome, just because they voted for the party. Labour are in a position of influence so we will have to see what they do.  Reform are there, as quite a presence should Labour continue to fail. It feels as if we are on a very thin line
    • I agree with that The voters authorised strong austerity in 2010 and kept voting for it for 14 years - for that reason alone, given Labour have been in power for only months I can't find my else able to equate them as bad as each other. Yet. It may happen and given Labour's poor decision making and comms to date I wouldn't be surprised if they end up that way Problem is the voters say they want one thing (lower prices/better public services/things working) but then don't reward any government that tries to deliver -  and they explicitly said they wanted higher prices with Brexit and lower public services by voting Cons in for 14 years - so they got what they wanted, they just don't like the reality Whoever is elected now has to find a way to address those years of underinvestment and diminished growth - there is no painless way out. But blaming immigration for everything (Reform speciality) is only making everything worse
    • That’s good to know, but it just wasn’t clear to me.
