just booked very last minute flights to the Algarve for this week & now need to find the right area for a self catering place to stay.  We like places in  less touristy areas & relatively unspoilt towns/villages/ beaches  - if anyone has any suggestions  would be great.

Thanks!

I went there many years ago and it had long since been past its best as an idyllic spot.  But perhaps out of season you will find something peaceful away from the golf courses and British bars.  Others may be less cynical!

If you get a car and go up to the Alentejo there are some wonderful hill towns, but nicer in the spring when the meadows are in flower.

    • Hello, I'm from Ireland and would love my children to be able to know the language - I can speak it but I'm not so good at teaching it. If there's anyone local who used to teach Irish at primary school (preferably Connemara Irish) and who'd like to tutor 3 boys aged 7-10 for an hour or two a week please do let me know. Thanks, Sarah
