Agreed! Although they're spelt 'beigels' in Brick Lane 😉

Beigel is a Yiddish word which has been translated to bagel - beigel (specifically in Brick Lane) are traditional, denser, and chewier jewish style bread rings, often boiled and baked in wood-fired oven.

bagel is lighter, sweeter Americanised version

in my house you’ll get beigels!

Gourmet to Honest seems a bit of a downgrade.

Honest is a much better restaurant than Gourmet. Quality of the produce is higher quality.

Sorry Angell, I was being facetious about Honest Burger. I agree, its a much better offering.

Re Tesco, they've turned that round quickly since actually starting work. Seems to have a cash machine too, which will be useful as the other two are sometimes empty.

Tesco opened today. It's a good clean space and will be a handy addition to LL, especially since it's open til 11pm on Sundays for the forgetful / those returning to london after a weekend away etc.

Decent for emergencies but prices aren't cheap in there!

https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/supermarkets/article/supermarket-price-comparison-aPpYp9j1MFin declares them to be next cheapest after Aldi and Lidl.  Is it that the small Express ones charge more than the full-size ones?

Beigel and bagel are the same word. It's just different transliteration/transcription.

Former Romeo Jones site is under offer...

Yiddish is written in Hebrew script, traditionally, so any attempt to use 'Roman' script will be transliteration, as noted. Hebrew script does not have vowels as such, so any vowels used will try to copy the Yiddish sound of the word. Bagel and Beigel are both correct transliterations of the Yiddish word.
