There are 2 rides organised for Feb15th. Amanda’s ride from Peckham to the Yurt Cafes (Limehouse) and a srde in search of Spring with Bruce.

Time to wash away those January Blues and look forward. Let’s try and find some snowdrops, some  lambs tails or any signs that spring is coming on an easy-paced, 2 hour ride. Route will depend on what I spot over the next few days AND any suggestions from riders (or anyone else). Post about where you have seen signs of Spring to WhatsApp/The Vulnerables or email to [email protected].  As ever will try to avoid busy roads and use cycleways, paths and quiet streets as much as possible. Start 10am in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre and Peckham Library, SE15 5RY). Finish 12 noon. Around 10 miles, leader Bruce.
Feb 15th. Ride 2.  Circular Ride to the Yurts Café, Limehouse.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/circular-ride-to-the-yurts-cafe-limehouse-tickets-1238100535029 >
The yurts are such a surprise, tucked away near the Limehouse Link. They house a Social Enterprise Community Cafe operated by The Royal Foundation of St Katharine. If you have never been there, try to join this ride. If you have been there before, then you will probably want to return.  Start 10am Peckham Square, next to Peckham library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY. OUTWARD: start Peckham, over Tower Bridge and through Wapping. RETURN: Thames Path down the Isle of Dogs to Greenwich, either crossing via the tunnel or if not working, DLR via Mudchute back to Peckham.  Plan to be back by 1pm. About 13 miles. Amanda leading.

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • I think part of the problem may be that if you are a cyclist and  can see cars and pedestrians after dark, e.g. lit by streetlights and headlights, you don't realise that they can't see you when your bike has no lights and you are dressed in dark non reflective clothing. The other part of the problem may be that you just don't care, of course. ETA: Do Lime bikes not have lights?
    • It was normal cyclists, in rush hour traffic, in the dark, in the rain. Just really want people to realise it’s that time of year even more careful and to get kitted out.
    • The other consideration is that users of Lime bikes and similar, plus younger pedal cyclists, probably don't view themselves as 'cyclists' as such and so don't get kitted out or even consider that they need to. I also agree that earlier nights are another factor for the casual or hire bike user more used to cycling in the summer. I don't think I have ever seen a hire bike or scooter user wearing a helmet or reflective gear- presumably that is because the bike is just viewed as a transport tool for short term use and users do not want to be encumbered by any of the safety gear? Before anyone jumps on me for anecdotal evidence and speculation, this is just what I have seen round here, there may be hordes of similar users elsewhere that are kitted out.
