Soho should also be pedestrianised.

There's quite a strong push for that to happen as a complementary part to the Oxford Street works. The success of outside dining during / after Covid is credited with keeping a number of the establishments there trading in the first place - and then it was all taken away again.

Why should cyclists be prioritised over car drivers?

Well really, PEOPLE should be prioritised, no matter their mode of transport to actually get to Oxford Street or Soho or wherever. I mean, that's kind of how shopping centres operate. You travel to the shopping centre (via whatever mode of transport you choose) and then you actually get to go shopping in a traffic free environment.

Now imagine that along Oxford Street.

A fuss made?  You’ve probably only been a cyclist for a few years and if longer then good luck to you. I’ve  been driving since 1981 and it’s the best thing ever. Why should cyclists be prioritised over car drivers?  The West End would be destroyed.

Rather patronising,  I've been cycling in London for decades and occasionally driving through it as well,  I have never in my life wanted to or needed to drive up Charing Cross Road and Totenham Court Road, and have always found it bizarre why people would do this apart from trades people and those supplying shops.  Even much of this can be done on zero emission vehicles.  On a Friday or Saturday night you look at many who drive in this dreadfully congested area and scratch your head.  It will be so much better without this.

Too right that cyclists, and more importantly pedestrians, should be prioritised.  It sound like you are addicted to driving, a hard habit to break.  Fortunately I saw the light many years ago.  Join me.

Not patronising at all compared to some of your posts. I’m not saying I’ve ever driven to the West End (I’ve always used buses) except for when I worked at Waterloo and the company I worked for had an underground car park but some people have no choice. As for cycling, then that’s your choice and something you seem to think we all want or should be doing. I’m afraid you’re wrong.

Not sure if you're arguing that the pedestrianisation of the north side of Trafalgar square was a bad thing, but I can't imagine many people would want to reverse it. So much better now.

Most provincial high streets went down the pedestrianisation route 40 years ago or more. Crazy that the UKs 'premier shopping street' is effectively a car park. Of course large parts of it should be pedestrianised and landscaped to turn it back in to a destination, rather than the messy street in decline that it is now.

Soho should also be pedestrianised.

    • As I said, it was my understanding. I worded it very carefully. I didn't/don't know for sure, so clearly not a fact. And hardly an "opinion", which is something completely different. You have no idea what reason anybody might have had for not voting for him (unless you can point to some opinion poll results which actually asked people?)
    • Also, just to add, the threat to kill someone's dog and try to kick it, is an additional extremely unpleasant layer. I have noticed a lot of the burst water balloons lying around in the park too- that is not great for the environment either.
    • I’m basing it on the fact that Jeremy Corbyn had repeatedly and on record said he is against mandatory vaccinations in any situation, and he wouldn’t disclose wether he had the Covid vaccine himself    as I said. Not as bad as his brother but very definitely a bit weird about the whole thing. Just say you had the vaccination Jeremy, say that everyone should and stop being weird in the middle of a global pandemic    it’s the same slippery evasive nonsense about Brexit and him. About Putin poisonings and him.     if you are happy with his evasiveness then you do you.  But there is a reason the country wouldn’t get behind him
