I was coming from central London in a taxi on Friday night (approx 11.15) when we were brought to a sudden standstill on Camberwell New Road by umpteen police officers armed with these things

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_%26_Koch_MP5

(I think)

running about the road and pointing their firearms in rather uncomfortable directions. (Lots of police vehicles in evidence too.)

Anybody know what was going on?

It doesn't help my case persuading taxi drivers to head South when these kinds of things happen. (These days, I get in the taxi before telling them where I'm going, just so they can't make their excuses and drive away.)

I had the opportunity to use the MP5 SD3 (Shown on that page) that was a superbly balance gun. (Was in the TA, so no need to call the cops...)

CO, did he then say something about some day a real rain was going to come and wash all the scum from the streets?

Did you at any time catch him looking in his mirror and enquire of himself as to whom he might be looking at?

Did he have a mohican hairstyle?

I think we should be told.

Nope, I got in a cab the other week and the driver was smoking. He told me that if I reported him, it would be my word against his and nothing would happen. I told him he could do what he liked as I just wanted to get home.

He then proceeded to tell me about his double life and how his wife didn't want any more kids. He told her that if she wouldn't have them, he'd find someone else who would. Apparently he did and now has a wife and a kid up North and a girlfriend and a kid down here. They all know about each other. :-S Like I care!!

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.

If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
