Wood floor sanding recommendation - go for Nikolay Nikolov (NN Floor Sanding)

Recommended Posts

Nikolay & team were fantastic from start to finish - really responsive, easy communication, explained what they would do and delivered on it, and crucially delivered high-quality work. We bought a house with very tired floorboards that had been covered up by carpet for a very (very) long time, with cracked floorboards, and big gaps between some of them - just generally dirty and grim-looking. Within 7 working days for three rooms, a corridor, and an entire staircase, the floor was sanded, some floorboards replaced, gaps filled in, and finished to a great colour and feel. We hesitated a long time between restoring the floor or just covering it up again with a new floor, but really glad we went down this route and found a great team to take care of it. It was also a very reasonable price for the amount of work done - would have been a nightmare to do ourselves without the right kit etc at the start, so glad we spent this money. I would highly recommend NN Floor Sanding based on my experience with them.

Nikolay's work was recommended by several forum users in here, and we decided to go with his services after getting his quote: it was well priced, with the cost of each component clearly broken down.

We recently purchased a Victorian conversion in Catford which had alot of damaged floorboards (old, but also damaged from badly done DIY repairs) which needed replacing, and a 4 x 4m bedroom which needed all new floorboards installed as previous owners removed all original boards to install cheap chipboard floors covered with padding and carpets. Nikolay and his team removed the chipboards, and built the floor in 2–3 days from reclaimed boards, alongside doing alot of replacements and repairs to a lounge and dining room. When the quote was to go up due to more repairs being needed (we asked for it) Nikolay communicated the changes, and gave us an updated quote quickly so we could update our budget for it.

They were very communicative and gave frequent text and photo progress updates when we could not be there which put us at ease. The whole job was efficiently completed in 6 working days including sanding and staining all the floors. The job was completed to a high standard, and the results were incredible. I still have 1 more bedroom which needs restoring, and I have every intention to go back to Nikolay again for his services.

We found Nikolay through these reviews and I’m so glad we did! He’s just finished restoring the original wooden floors in the living room, dining room and hallway of our Victorian house which had probably not seen the light of day since construction. This involved carefully lifting them to install insulation underneath and replacing, sanding, filling and varnishing them, plus replacing boards that were too damaged by woodworm with reclaimed pine boards. The floors are now transformed and look beautiful. As others said,Nikolay and his team were friendly, very good communicators and charged a very reasonable price. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

    • Great shout. They do need the extra fat when it’s winter, but don’t use fat balls from April as they are dangerous for nestlings as the babies can choke on lumps of the fat. When it gets milder switch to suet pellets as they are harder and don’t melt (the grease is bad for feathers.
    • Rather alarmist. There is unlikely to be snow this week, but even if there is that is natural and wildlife adjust accordingly. There are fewer insects to eat due to what humans have done to the planet over the decades.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decline_in_insect_populations  In particular: Habitat Loss and Fragmentation: Agricultural Chemicals: Climate Change: Pollution: Invasive Species: There is even a case for not feeding birds due to the spread of disease through feeders, greenfinch population was decimated.   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/24/should-we-stop-feeding-birds-what-happens-if-we-do-and-does-it-spread-disease   I do feed the birds but keeping a watching eye on the evidence.   And I try to grow insect and bird friendly plants including attempts at a meadow.   There could also be an argument for not keeping cats as these may decimate bird populations.   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/aug/14/cats-kill-birds-wildlife-keep-indoors   You will need squirrel proof feeders and even then you may have the starlings and green squwaky things eating most of the food left out for small birds.
    • Apparently this year due to the weather there are fewer insects for the birds to eat. So please if you don’t usually buy fat balls & seeds to put out (in safe places to avoid the cats ) a plentiful supply . They really need it this year, especially with snow forecast later this week.    Thankyou
    • I hope she and the rider of the bike are ok. I feel its understandable that locals may be concerned when they see a road taped off and police presence.
