Hi. Just to let folks know of an XL Bullydog being ‘walked’ by its owner in this area around 8am. The dog is unleashed and unmuzzled. I’ve reported it to the police. Appreciate they are already struggling to manage this issue but it needs addressing. Today I saw the dog roaming wildly with its unconcerned owner at school run time. I suggest others report if you see it.

Wow.

Roaming wildly in the woods.
Is there history of this owner being dangerous or out of control?

Dogs can be kept with certification and yes - should be on lead in public places but having an off lead early morning walk in the woods?

It’s supposed to be muzzled AND on a lead in a public place and it wasn’t. That is the law, so she did right reporting it.

Could this be the same dog that attacked another dog a few months ago?   It was reported on here.

What would usually happen in a case like that?

I would have thought if it was an XL Bully and attacked another dog, it would be considered dangerous and be removed from its owner?

Is the system  more complicated?

Yes, but first the police have to find the dog and owner.

Wasn’t some respected person in the community attacked and subsequently  died by a dog of similar breed a few months ago? Not saying same dog.

Take a photo next time if you can.

All dogs need exercise - lead walking would not be, I think enough for this breed.

I believe the dog(s) in question was/were found and destroyed.

That said, I also think there were a couple of cases in fairly short order; one where another dog was killed, one where a dog was attacked but survived. I remember reading it on here and hearing about it locally in a sort of "friend of a friend" type way but I think the two reports got mixed up with details from (I believe) two cases confused and crossed as often happens in these situations.

Definitely up around Sydenham Woods though.

Can you provide a description/photo of the dog and owner?

To be clear. This dog wasn't in the woods. It was running loose along the pavement on Crescent Wood Road close to the entrance to the Woods. Either way, as others have said, this breed ought to be on lead and muzzled in any public areas. Looking to try and excuse these behaviours is not helpful.

Thanks. I bumped up the other thread and saw that it was reported that the dogs had been seized, but owner had not been traced.

    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
    • There’s a couple of Gov petitions going on in relation to fireworks at the moment but this one is for banning them entirely except organised displays if anyone wants to sign. This is the only sensible way forward in my view. No one should be able to let them off in gardens or anywhere like that, it’s crazy. I am surprised some of you have said it hasn’t been as bad this year. I live near DKH Saino and it’s been absolutely terrible my way for days. This petition gained about 20,000 just in the last day or so so clearly the appetite is there! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559
    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.
