NOTE the new rides info here is for April 5th, Saturday week.
On 5th April we have 2 rides. One is a new ride to Danson Park and Welling. The other is a short ride we have not done for 3 years – 3 Prisons and a Ferryman’s Seat.
5th April, Ride 1. Circular Ride from Cutty Sark to Danson Park and Welling < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cir cular-cycle-ride-from-cutty-sark-to-danson-park-and-welling-tickets-1303389656549 >

.From the Cutty Sark up the hill in Greenwich Park and on to Eltham and Danson Park. Continue on circular route through Welling and Plumstead to Woolwich. Coffee stop at Woolwich then Thames Path passing the Flood Barrier back to Cutty Sark. This ride consists mostly of quiet roads and cycle paths. Start 10:00am, aim to finish 1:30pm, Mike K. leading.
Southwark was famous for its prisons in the 18th and 19th centuries. Learn about them and some other local history on a great 2 hour, 9.5 mile, flat ride with Bruce leading. Start/finish in Peckham Square (Peckham Library, Peckham Pulse, SE15 5RY) , 10am start, 12 noon finish. Starts along the Canal Path to Burgess Park, then Cycleway 17 to the New Kent Rd.  First stop at Newington Gardens (Location of Horsemonger Lane Goal), then Angel Place (Location of Marshalsea Prison), and Bear Gardens (Location of the Ferryman’s Seat). Return via Gt Suffolk St and Kings Bench St to Scovell Rd (Location of Kings Bench Prison). Next join Cycleway 10 to Coopers Rd and the Canal Path again. As usual keeping to quiet roads, almost entirely, plus some nice path at the start/finish. This ride was first done in 2017 led by Harry Clark and most recently by Bruce in 2021 and 22 (see report). Harry wrote a detailed information sheet, available with the ride reports and photos here. Harry is these days leading his own rides, see “Lets Go Cycling”, https://www.facebook.com/groups/2243369265928023). Ride route at https://tinyurl.com/eafmcnf5.
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • Here is the decision document. I’m sure we will all agree that it’s great Southwark is listening to businesses. “This request came from the businesses on Lordship Lane, informing Highways that they have large vehicles coming to collect and deliver goods from the business which causing an obstruction as vehicles are parked both sides of the entrance and opposite resulting into the vehicle having to block the whole road and cause obstruction.” “Officers attended site and met with the local business to discuss what would be the best solution to allowing the large vehicles to drop off and collect without obstructing and blocking the road off. As a result, it was agreed that double yellow lines will allow space for loading/unloading without obstructing the road.”   a Officers attended site and met with the local business to discuss That isn’t true, so long as the driver is actually loading (ie not shopping nearby).
    • Thanks very much, that's really interesting. I feel better about the shredded paper not being recycled now! And even better that I can get it out of the house and into the green bin! I will save a bit for future composting though  (and homemade seed paper, thanks Peckhamgatecrasher) x
