Did anyone hear the fireworks last night and know what they were in aid of? I was woken at 1am by a full-on firework display that lasted for a good 10 mins. I'm at the Peckham Rye end of ED. Usually I sleep through anything but this was loud, and I thought that a 1am firework display was a bit strange.

I saw a lot of discussion about it elsewhere  online somewhere this morning, but I can't now trace where.

People heard it and were woken by it around  a wide area, including all parts of East Dulwich and Camberwell.

Very antisocial, so late and on a school night.

If from someone's garden, that's even worse. Pity the poor immediate neighbours 😭

No, my parents are in Nunhead and it was really noisy there too.  They were only just going to bed so didn't wake them up 😁

    • That explanation sounds highly unlikely!  Surely the "days of the week" plates must be a standard size. I know Royal Mail often appears incompetent, but it  couldn't be that stupid, surely. Was it 1 April?!

    • Southwark's recycling guidance says to put shredded paper in the blue bin in a paper envelope or "small box". I've got far too much of it for that  (confidential stuff going back decades) - thanks to the EDF member who kindly gave me a shredder! It would be a "massive box". I have barely started  the shredding, and I've already got an extremely large bagful.   I've read online that you can put it into  large clear plastic bags in the bin for paper,  provided you  clearly label it "shredded paper" and it is obvious what it is. Does anybody know if Southwark would accept it like that? Alternatively, can anyone make use of it for animal bedding or packaging material or adding to  compost?
