NOTE the new rides info here are for April 12th. d-a-ferrymans-seat-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-1303335334069 .
On 12th April we have 2 rides. One is Jamie’s annual outing to ride the Boat Race course and the other is an Egg Hunt!
We regularly do a ride to explore Canary Wharf. This year we are adding an Egg Hunt and a look at the new developments on the east side. 10am start from the Southwark Gateway Needle on the south side of London Bridge.  Aim to be back there at 12.45.  Route out via Cycleway 3, into Canary Wharf at West India Quay passing London Museum Docklands and the Elizabeth Line Station. Start looking for large eggs. 0ff-road route round to Wood Wharf Bridge. Cross bridge and loop through new Union Square and past Harbord Square Park to Preston Rd, the main road on the east side of the Isle of Dogs. Return through Union Square then turn to Harbour Quay. Stop for refreshments at Marcato food market. Return via Jubilee Park still keeping an eye out for eggs. Exit Canary Wharf to the Thames near Westferry then Thames path, ornamental canals, St Katherines Dock and Tower Hill to London Bridge.  Bruce leading. 12th April, Ride 2. Annual Southwark Cyclists Pre-Boat Race Ride < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/annual-southwark-cyclists-pre-boat-race-ride-tickets-1312225324269 >
Jamie leading again, this year with a 9.30 start. Here are his usual very complete instructions.
Coordinating Instructions and Timings. Riders will meet at 09.30am on Saturday 12th April at the bottom of the steps outside and under the Waterloo Station Victory Arch that is 50 yards up on the right from where York Road meets Mepham Street and Cab Road just before the road bridge. A short safety briefing will be given at 09.30am. The ride should arrive back at Waterloo Station before 2.00pm.
Mission To cycle the iconic 4.25 mile course of the 170th Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race up the Middlesex bank of the Thames from the Race start line at Putney embankment to the finish post at Chiswick Bridge by Mortlake. The race first started in 1845 and is always held on a flood tide with crews rowing with the current. This years televised Boat race itself takes place the following day, Sunday 13th April 2025 with the Women’s Race starting at 1.21pm followed by the Men’s Race starting at 2.21pm.
Route This is a circular route that involves some great river views and enjoyable cycling in stages for about 20 miles in all. The route out is mostly along quieter roads but the river paths are only suitable for competent rider abilities. The return route is predominantly on cycle lanes, via Hammersmith, Kensington Gardens, Buckingham Palace and back to Waterloo.
Rations and Water There will be a coffee stop with loos prior to us reaching the race start line at Putney. We will stop for lunch near the race finish at Chiswick Bridge and riders are advised to bring their own picnic lunch.
Checks and Equipment Riders are urged to pre-check their bikes e.g. A = Air in tyres, B = Brakes, C= Chain & gears etc. The river route can be gusty thus Riders are advised to bring: a warm fleece, waterproof top/trousers.
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • Totally agree with you.  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
    • It took the Tories 14 years to dig that 20bn blackhole. It's taken Labour 14 months to double it.  You cant get rid of Reeves though because the next person will actually be totally incompetent. There are no MPs in Labour capable of performing better than the current shower.
    • Thanks P. That sounds like a bargain compared to other horror stories I've heard!
    • DD, "Rejoice rejoice. It's a pity he and his fellow clowns were completely annihilated at the ballot box. I mean they were doing so well after all 🙃🙃" At least the economy and unemployment weren't in the mess they are now. What is it, give the public sector a whopping pay increase with no strings attached, double the black hole and then blame it on the last Govt. Give me strength. Rachel from accounts shouldn't be anywhere near the economy. The final straw was increasing employer NI contributions and look how that's worked out. Month on month both inflation and unemployment have risen. Won't be long before inflation and u/e are exceeding 5%, but guess what, They'll blame Sunak and go.  Lets have a snap election right NOW, then see how poorly Starmer, Reeves and Rainer do. They're already plotting to get rid of Starmer, and if you think its bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh and did I mention Starmer wanting to stop Freedom of Speech............................................Normal people can see right through what him and co are doing, great at spending other peoples money, him and co don't have = bankruptcy. We'll just repeat the economic collapse that happened in Greece and wasn't it in Italy as well?
