Just seen a post online about Janda Diner, the Malaysian restaurant on Rye Lane. They're offering an "invisible rice" side dish for £3.50. Whoever orders it gets absolutely nothing - because the money is donated to PECAN, a food bank that serves people in need in Southwark.

It's a witty and much-needed way to raise money for PECAN's important work. Mr Bao did something similar last year, I understand. Well done, Janda Diner!

Good idea. Good to see they’re using vintage 1970s Pyrex plates in the Autumn Glory design 🌼

I have had a fear of Pyrex plates since one was put down in front of me (with food on) in the seventies and suddenly it shattered into millions of tiny pieces 😮

Ii have still got a couple of those plates - purchased in the then Jones and Higgins in the early 70s. Whereabouts is Janda?

JandaDiner is on Rye Lane in Peckham - 191 Rye Ln (near to Choumert Road). It's really really good - quite unique and exciting Malaysian food - not a cheap meal, but worth it in my view

I heard it had moved further down Rye Lane,  but I just googled and 191 is the new address!

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
