Does anyone know who owns the blue Transit van reg. NV61 NXL which has been parked in Chesterfield Grove for the last few months?

Despite being legally parked, insured, taxed and MOT'd procedures have been set in motion to have the Council remove it as an abandoned vehicle.

How do you know it's "abandoned"?

Why is there a move to have it removed?  Is it causing an issue besides being an inconvenience to you/neighbours?

Maybe the owner is away for a long period of time?

If it's all legal then why is anyone creating a fuss?

If all the details about it are known, surely rather than removing it, the council should contact the owner if they think it's causing some problem (though if it's legally parked there, I fail to see what that has to do with the council or anybody else).

As per a previous post on EDF, worth reporting to police on 101 in case it is stolen.  That could be a helpful thing to do.  If it's not stolen and it's parked legally then it's not going anywhere.

"........the Council's responsibility is only to remove abandoned vehicles. Any vehicle that has been involved in a crime ( such as theft ) is the responsibility of the Police. If you suspect that a stolen vehicle has been left on your street, please phone non-emergency police on 101 and they will see if its stolen and get it removed, if appropriate."

I'm entirely in agreement with the posters above, I've raised this as I don't see why a legally parked, insured etc. etc. vehicle should have to be be taken away by the Council.

The definition of an an abandoned vehicle by gov. uk is one which has been left for a 'significant' period of time.

Councillors were not able to say what that period might be, or indeed answer the question as to whether they would be liable to prosecution for the confiscation and disposal of a perfectly legally parked, etc.etc. vehicle .

The WhatsAp group on which this has been discussed  uses the phrase 'eyesore', (it's a blue Van) and mentions that it has a Glastonbury sticker on it, maybe that's a clue to the agenda here.

Chesterfield Grove has other vans, large cars and SUVs, if one was to be parked outside my house for a long period of time, it might be a bit annoying but I certainly wouldn't lobby the Council to have it removed.

As this will be my last post can I once again urge anyone who might know who it belongs to contact them to take some action, possibly moving it to another parking space in Chesterfield Grove will satisfy everyone

    • A lot to agree with here - don’t get me started on Irish people complaining about immigration! - but that final paragraph is once again a cop out  there’s a lot of extreme right wing money stirring up the division that people are feeling - but there is zero excuse for handing power to these people. We live in a democracy and if we have enough people willing to give it up then judging those people foolish enough to do so is not only something that will happen, it is something that the rest of us should be morally compelled to do  if someone wouldn’t “normally” vote for a racist party yet somehow will do so because they hear someone like me saying that would be bad, then you better believe I’m judging them

    • The current wave of xenophobia is due to powerful/influential people stirring up hatred.  It;'s what happened in the past, think 1930s Germany.  It seems to be even easier now as so many get their information from social media, whether it is right or wrong.  The media seeking so called balance will bring some nutter on, they don't then bring a nutter on to counteract that. They now seem to turn to Reform at the first opportunity. So your life is 'shite', let;s blame someone else.  Whilst sounding a bit like a Tory, taking some ownership/personal responsibility would be a start.  There are some situations where that may be more challenging, in deindustrialised 'left behind' wasteland we can't all get on our bikes and find work.  But I loathe how it is now popular to blame those of us from relatively modest backgrounds, like me, who did see education and knowledge as a way to self improve. Now we are seen by some as smug liberals......
