Freddie9972 Posted Friday at 19:45 Share Posted Friday at 19:45 Keen to hear people’s recent experiences of applying to Southwark council for a dropped kerb. We are buying a house in the area and are extremely hopeful of getting one. It doesn’t 100% meet the council’s guidance (space wise the frontage is just short of the minimum length required between house and pavement) but other houses on the street already have a dropped kerb with the same space and, my reading of the guidance, is that the various factors are only factors that ‘may’ prevent the application from being successful. Also, is anyone here able to say how long they will take to carry out the initial feasibility survey? Pugwash Posted Sunday at 13:49 Share Posted Sunday at 13:49 i believe that Southwark are cutting down on dropped kerb applications due to concerns of flooding. So many people are converting their front gardens to car parking spaces and rainwater is running off into street. I may be wrong so you will need to check. My dropped kerb was already in place when we purchased the house in 1975. malumbu Posted Sunday at 15:39 Share Posted Sunday at 15:39 And a loss of habitat I expect. First question is why do you need one? 1 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/361334-dropped-kerb-application/#findComment-1706526 Share on other sites
march46 Posted Sunday at 15:56 Share Posted Sunday at 15:56 As cars have got significantly bigger in recent times it’s likely any car parked on the drive could overhang the pavement, if it doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. Not good for pedestrians. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/361334-dropped-kerb-application/#findComment-1706528 Share on other sites
Kathleen Olander Posted Sunday at 18:12 Share Posted Sunday at 18:12 The current increase in applications for drop kerbs is due to Southwark Council's policy in putting in CPZ's wherever they can! 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/361334-dropped-kerb-application/#findComment-1706541 Share on other sites
march46 Posted Sunday at 18:33 Share Posted Sunday at 18:33 Do you have evidence that there is an increase in drop kerb applications in Southwark? 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/361334-dropped-kerb-application/#findComment-1706542 Share on other sites
Happyme5 Posted Sunday at 18:43 Share Posted Sunday at 18:43 Maybe part of the agreement for dropped kerb and parking should be related to us providing natural habitat for nature. As individual applicants. Not to be policed but as a nod to nature 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/361334-dropped-kerb-application/#findComment-1706546 Share on other sites
Pugwash Posted Tuesday at 13:59 Share Posted Tuesday at 13:59 When we resurfaced our drive, we made sure that on either side of the hard standing there were earth beds with plants and shrubs to absorb rainwater. 3 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/361334-dropped-kerb-application/#findComment-1706756 Share on other sites
