On Saturday May 17th we will have 2 rides, a new ride exploring the history of the Surrey Canal and a second to one of our regular destinations, Victoria Park in Hackney.
Meet at 10.00h in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre). The ride will trace the route of the Grand Surrey Canal from Peckham to the canal entrance on the Thames at Salt Quay. On familiar paths we will seek out features of the canal along the way and the docks at Surrey Quays, and dig into their history.  Coffee will be in Folkestone Garden and the ride will end at Southwark Park at approximately 2pm. There will be an additional short led ride back to Peckham Square for any riders wishing to get back to the start.
Victoria Park is the oldest public park in London (opened 1845) and has a lake with fountain, a pagoda and a bandstand where bands still play every Sunday. And it has some lovely wide paths, perfect for shared riding and walking.  We will set out at 9.30 across Tower Bridge and follow mostly quiet streets and paths via Limehouse and Mile End to ‘Vicky’ Park. Then east to the nearby Olympic Park and probable coffee stop at the View Tube. Back via Three Mills, Westferry and Cycleway 3 to London Bridge by about 1pm. Ride Leader Amanda. Likely route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=17PYDnLncULO4ABJukYz8fU2NRqb9lm8&usp=sharing
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

Note. Ride reports, often with photos and route maps, are posted to the Southwark Cyclists web site, yearly index at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/Future/provisional ride ideas can be viewed on our planning spreadsheet.

    • Corbyn was unelectable - he got trashed by Boris who was a buffoon. It was a good job too because I would have hated to see Corbyn and his rag-tag bunch of far-left university politics backbenchers try to lead the country through Covid.  It is completely understandable why Starmer and the Labour Party want to purge Momentum from within their ranks and Cllr McAsh has fallen victim of that.

    • Hello.   Thanks Nigel and Hparker 😀   I've got new slots available for new students looking for a piano teacher or guitar teacher.   You could start in the new term beginning September, or I'm also available adhoc-styles through the summer holidays at times.   I teach all ages, in most styles, in lots of different ways according to how you learn/like to learn.   Give me a call or text on 07730 402336.   I have connections to lots of performance opportunities/networks too.   I run regular events /student concerts, and play in bands/perform.   Natalie.
    • So do I, but I think they are in trouble as well.  Anyway, that space wouldn't be big enough.
