Meson Don Felipe on The Cut was my go to place for many years. Though it's now many years since I was there. 10-15 minute walk from the Tate. If you go can you tell me what it's like nowadays?

How about Ev or one of the other places under the railway arches in Isabella Street behind The Cut.  And there's leafy outdoor seating if the weather's nice.

used to love Meson don felipe with the funny guitarist who used to climb up and play on a podium, still a nice lively atmosphere and we still pop in if at the young vic but there's a lot better Spanish eateries near Borough market which is closer to the Tate too. Barrafina, Brindisa (though neither are cheap) and a few weeks ago we tried one called Parrillan, where they bring a little grill to your table and you cook your own tapas - this one certainly ticks the box for quirky but the portions are small so the bill can mount up.

Tas on The Cut is decent and has tables outside. The road is not too busy now so it can be pleasant.

Mango Indian just off Borough Market is great. A bit pricy (though worth it) in the evenings, but if you're going for lunch they do a £12 set menu. Not quirky though, sorry!
