Post boxes and accuracy of "next collection day" plate

I've just popped out (Wednesday) to post a card .Collection times listed as 9am.But the little metal plate indicates Friday as the next day for collection .

Are these metal plates accurate ? Or are they not changed ,maybe a faff to do so are left ?

A couple of years ago, when the pillarbox was being emptied, I queried the inappropriate day showing on the metal plate. The postman told me that only a couple of the 'days of the week' plates fitted the slot, so they were the only ones he could use.

But the 9.00 am is now accurate, that's when they pick up mail.

That explanation sounds highly unlikely! 

Surely the "days of the week" plates must be a standard size. I know Royal Mail often appears incompetent, but it  couldn't be that stupid, surely.

Was it 1 April?!
